Can anyone recomend a nice pension/cheap hotel in the Gotic
area of Barcelona, pref. close to Las Ramblas? My mother,
who is fairly familiar with certain levels of filth, will be
there in July and is looking for somewhere to stay. Thanks.

i just found your message on lonely planet. i am from brasil
and i am going to barcelona in two weeks (june/10) and i'd
like to know if you got your informations about cheap hotels
there. if so, please tell me. thanks a lot, pupo.
Hey Katherine -
I was in Barcelona this March. I personally stayed at
a place called the Hotel Toledano, which was nice, but not
so nice as to justify the price. I saw a place at the far
end of the Rambla called Hotel Benidorm, but did not have a
reservation, so was not able to get a room. It was cheap
(about $4000 ps in March, though this is low season) and
from the appearance of the lobby, was new and clean. I'm
sorry I don't have the phone #. Hopefully you'll be able
to find this somehow. Good luck and enjoy!

In the gothic quarter although i'll admit i can't remember
where exactly! Sorry.
It looked a bit odd from the outide but it was very clean
and friendly and although you shared a bathroom with people
on the same floor it was kept so clean, impeccable and was
only about รบ13 (UK pound) a night for a double room
Enjoy Barcelona, top place!!
Hi there Katherine.
My mother and I were in Barcelona this time last year, and
had the most fantastic accomodation.
We stayed right off Las Ramblas on Calle Santa Ana.
It's something like the second street on your left wandering
down Las Ramblas from the Plaza de Catalunya.
It's not fancy, but it is cheap, clean and we had no
problems. Close to everything, but not so stuck in the
dodgy Gothic Quarter parts. A wonderful Tapas bar across
the calle and you can pop onto Las Ramblas any time in a
second.
It is run by a lovely (Spanish speaking) lady and her
daughter, who speaks a little english.
Hope this is some help, hope your Mum has a great time.
Kirsten.
