I'm heading off to Ireland in a few weeks time and while
there is a fair bit of info on the hostels in Dublin and
Galway City I'd be interested in any feedback people have
on hostels that they've stayed in (eg. the Kinlay House
hodtels). Cheers and I'll buy you a beer if you point me in
the right direction.

I 've never stayed in hostels in Dublin but would always
have said to people _NOT_ to go to Kinlay House. For no
particular reason I must stress, maybe just snobbery on my
part. But I had friends over from the UK recently and they
stayed there for a week and had a great time. It's really
good and central, in the shadow of ChristChurch cathedral
and just up the street from Temple Bar so you're not going
to do any better.
In Galway two places I would recommend (besides the city
itself) which is the business. Try the Wood Quay Hostel -
smallish, friendly and really homely in an almost crusty of
way. They're +353-91-562618. I stayed there once after a
particularly mad night out and they were full but let me and
my pal sleep in the sitting room which was so cool. There's
also the Great Western which is big and kind of anonymous
but also a little sterile. Nice though. It's
353-91-561139. If you stay there get a double room cos you
can do your own thing. They open onto the street and you
have your own key so don't need to go near the lobby.
Particularly handy if you end up with company.
In Dublin, go to The Long Hall, Grogan's and Mulligans for
great Guinness. Hogans and the Front Lounge for babe
spotting.
Best places in Galway are Taafes, McSwiggins and the Roisin
Dubh (for live music)........
If you're hear before the end of July, you can get me that
pint!!!!
Don.
I stayed there last December, and thought it was fine...
although they did not turn on the heat until 19:00, but in
the summer, that shouldn't be a problem! The "push-button"
showers were annoying, but as a whole it was clean, safe,
and included breakfast.
Don't miss the Home Plate restaurant in Galway - cheap and
plentiful, what a find for budget travellers.
i agree w/Ali. i've stayed @ the Kinlay house in Galway on
several occasions and thought it was a great place to stay,
decently priced. The Home Plate is a great budget
restaurant. In addition, try some of the pubs across the
Wolf Tone (sp.?) bridge on the other side of the Corrib
river. They tend to be a more local and sometimes cheaper.
And drink a pint for me.
