Anyone been to Olympos? How long does it take to get there
from Dalaman? From the map it looks like it will take about
5 hours. I have seen the Shaban & Cirali pansions
recomended. Any other views? Thanx

I took a bus from Olimpos to Fethiye, what looked like a
quick 3-4 hour ride was actually over 7 hours. It's a
smaller bus and stops at almost every little town along the
way. But it cost me about $3.50 (1.5Mil TL). You will be
dropped off at a roadside stop where a dolmus waits.
Depending on how many people are already there you could
wait for more than an hour until the driver gets ten
people. Or offer to pay more if you have say 5 people
already. It's a 13-15 km distance on a mountainous road so
forget about walking. Most backpackers end up going to the
treehouses/cabins and you can find some real deals (most
charge about $5 US a night with turkish breakfast and a
very good dinner included). Kadir's Tree house is the
first on the road but continue further down for better
deals. I never went to Cirali so I can't help you there.

actually the treehouses cost about $2.50 a night, meals
inclusive. $5 US is what I spent for two nights (not
    counting drinks)!

  3. OLYMPOS IS THE PLACE! Added by: Sinan (sinanCHE@netscape.net)

    Dear Karen,
Henry is right. If you are not on your own wheels, it takes
what it takes for the midibus drivers. But if you have a car
it takes about 6 hours. In any case, the road is quite
tough but it is worth it.
When you get there, you have two choices. One is, as Henry
recommended, the tree-houses, which is really unbelievably
cheap. The other is CIRALI village, where you can find many
pensions and a quite well-off hotel, the OLYMPOS LODGE. If
you like humble, inexpensive, calm, friendly places, you can
try the choices of pensions streching from the entrance of
the village to the skirts of Chimera mountain. You can also
check out the camping option. It is GREEN POINT. If you do
not have a tent they can offer you a tent or a caravan (they
have them ready for the visitors.)In short, it is a place
not to miss. The beach is unique. And since it is one of the
few places where Carettas lay eggs, the beach is under
protection. and the sea is beautiful.
    Have a nice holiday.

  4. KADIR'S iS IT! Added by: SPANKY

I stayed at kadir's a few years ago. It was awsome. There
are always cold beers in the fridge that you are welcome to
'On the honor system" and often locals show up and just
start dancing or playing music while having a smoke and some
tea, playing backgammon and chillin'. Some of my fondest
memories are from that place! he cooks some awesome meals
in the evening which are included in the price of your stay.
Breakfast is also served in the a.m. and often, he just bust
out with a chilled watermelon to share. It's a must, even
if it is more pricey than the other places. His treehouses
are the originals that got people into this whole thing.
    You'll love it!
