Hi, short of time & looking for advice.. just got a great
suprise! Meeting my boy who I haven't seen in ages in
Greece (thanks to work - cool)..
The plan at the moment is 2 nights Athens - 3 nigts
Santorini - 3 nights Mykonos - 1 night Athens ... leave
(sob).. So my questions are:
* Any nice hotels in any of the aboe - looking around
15,000 dr a double, a bit nice, a bit romantic maybe?? Any
personal favs? Much prefer small & idiosychratic to big &
impersonal..
* Athens - Santorini - fly?, ferry? if ferry should we do
overnight & book a cabin??
* if I had 3 more days (please, mr boss) should I extend
stay on one of the islands, or is there somthing cool (but
not too much travel time) to so??
Thanks, any suggestions would be cool... very excited..

  1. Boats Added by: Scribble (chrislh@bri.hp.com)

You'll find the easiest way to get from Athens to Santorini
is to get a boat. From Omonia Square in Athens centre, take
the underground to the end of the line, which is Pireas (the
port). Stroll along the waterfront shops and find yourself
the cheapest ticket, as the prices do vary from place to
place. Of the islands close to Athens, Santorini is
farthest, so if you have the dosh a cabin or something is a
bonus, otherwise you'll find the boat perfectly
comfortable... Santorini is a really nice island, famous for
its sunsets. There are lots of nice little places to hide
away, but I don't remember any of the names or prices of
places to stay. If you have time for another island I would
recomment Antiparos. It is gorgeous - really quiet and
attractive. If you like clubs and disco head for Ios. A
popular ferry deal is a 4 island pass - often for Santorini,
Ios, Naxos, Paros. Athens is not a very appealing city and
it can feel quite unsafe at night, especially in the area
around Omonia. If you do want a bit of historical
sightseeing, the Acropolis is interesting, (but it tends to
be choking with tourists!) Also nice is the area around
Monestraaki - Just stroll around for and afternoon and there
are plenty of government type buildings, market stalls,
tacky souvenir shops etc.. I suggest you go prepared for a
bit of hefty orienteering. Athens is notoriously difficult
to navigate. Many of the blocks are triangular, so two left
turns and your on the same street that you started on! Just
take a deep breath and take the rough with the smooth. My
general opinion is to clear out of Athens and enjoy a
cleaner & more relaxed atmosphere on the islands... have
    fun!
    safe travels,
    Chris

    Hi,
Just returned from Athens and Santorini. Had a great time in
both. If you are going to Santorini then I would definitely
suggest that you fly at least one way. Especially since you
are lamenting the shortness of your trip. You will use up an
entire day going to Santorini by ferry (9 hours on the
express). And another day coming back! The flight is like
    half an hour.
As for hotels on Santorini, the LP book is right on with
their reccommendation of a place called Chelidonia, in the
village of Oia. We stayed there and absolutely loved it.
They are traditional cave houses, unique and with
spectacular views. More expensive than other places at
22,000 dr but well worth it.
    Have a great trip!

  3. Hotel in Athens Added by: Anne
[Timestamp: Tue 25 May, 5:02 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I haven't been to the islands, but I spent altogether 5
nights in Athens. Hotels there tend to be expensive, loud
and hot. A good idea would be Hotel Aphrodite, Apollonos Str
    21, ph 3234357 - they've got ac, very rare for a
c-class-hotel (I didn't stay there, no vacancies; ask for a
room in the back away from the street). The places I stayed
in I can't recommend. Another suggestion: Acropolis View
south of Acropolis, Webster Str, ph 9217303. You will always
find a romm in Athens, but it can take some time and you
    have better things to do.

  4. Hi there... Added by: Kirsten (krutherford@fcb.com)

    Hi,
My boy and I are also doing the big Overseas Adventure, and
Greece is the last port of call. All up, we don't have
long, about 5 or 6 days...
we get into Athen from Rome at 3pm. We figure we'll get an
overnight ferry to Santorini, stay for a couple of days,
then head to Ios. From there, Mykonos and then Athens for
    another day.
Have you had any other info on hotels on the islands I'M
AFTER JUST THE SAME THING AS YOU ARE!
When are you going? I know that they have hideous price
increases in high season. Have you heard about the 'Palms'
on Ios? I suppose you aren't going there, but if you do, I
htink the hotel is a good one. We've got an unlimited ferry
pass (as many islands as you want, but you can't go back to
an island, and once you return to Piraeus, it is
void)...maybe that would be worth your while?
If you've got any hints, please email me.
    Thanks, Kirsten.

A very nice hotel in the island of Mukonos is Argo,in the
village Platus Gialos,3km from the village of Mukonos. The
rooms are very comfortable and clean, the stuff extremely
friendly and the price is around the price you 've asked
for.In Mukonos you should visit "WaterMania", you 'll have
lots of fun.Have a nice trip!!
