I'm looking for the most wonderful place to spend the next
New Years celebration.
I'd like to start here a list and the place with more votes
is the place I'm going to hit...
I've already heard things about places such as Edinburgh,
Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin......
Please help!!!

  1. The desert... Added by: Manuel
[Timestamp: Tue 19 Jan, 8:47 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I'm considering the hypothesis of going to the desert in
Tunisia. I believe nobody else is considering the same, but
the desert is large enough to a big group... ;)

It is too bad that the turn of the millenium is 2001.
Millions of idiots, like you, are celebrating it one year
    too early...

  3. Idiot!!! Added by: Alpinist (medina@mailandnews.com)
[Timestamp: Wed 20 Jan, 0:56 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Did I mention turn of the millenium in my post??
You'd better start learning how to read a message. I think
poeple like you, who learn a new thing (of course everybody
knows the turn of the century is in 2001) and don't loose an
opportunity to say some bullshits should be banned outta
    here.
Why don't you celebrate the turn 2000 2001 together with
manuel in the deserts? It would be good huh?

  4. Val Thorens, France Added by: Vanessa
[Timestamp: Wed 20 Jan, 14:26 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I am planning to celebrate here b/c my boyfriend lives
here, but from the top of the mountain, you can see over
all the Alps into France & Italy. It's beautiful and the
air is so crisp and clean. Bonne Annee!

  5. Two idiots? Added by: Manuel (gonzoo@geocities.com)
[Timestamp: Thu 21 Jan, 22:49 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Alpinist, just because jer is an idiot and you want to
answer his/her message, you don't need to use my name on
your posts. Why do you think i want to take an idiot with
me to Tunisia? What would you think if i told you to climb
to somewhere very high and very far and stay there till the
end of the third millenium? ½It would be good huh?╗

  6. would u pay that for me? Added by: Alpinist (medina@mailandnews.com)
[Timestamp: Fri 22 Jan, 0:26 Tasmanian Standard Time]

    Hey Manuel,
If u paid food, tents, transpors, etc. I would spend the
rest of my life in the Himalayas. But I'm afraid u can't.
Sorry for including your name ok?
    Alpinist

  9. Try these... Added by: Lambros (lsak@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Wed 3 Feb, 13:25 Tasmanian Standard Time]

    Plan A.
Celebrate new year in Paris, board on Concorde, fly to New
York, celebrate once more the new year in New York (It's
    possible. It's booked :( )
    Plan B.
Fly west and be among the LAST people to celebrate new year
    Plan C.
Be with those you love most wherever it is (tip for all new
    year celebrations)
Whatever you will finally do, do it with style.
ps. Let me know if you find something you like.

LAS VEGAS. Im canadian so I don't have that american
freakdom going on, and I like americans, but hate the
counrty, but seriously those people are hilarious, and they
know how to have fun. IT'd probably be crowded. I'd like
to spend it in Helsinki Finland but that's a personal
preference and pals, but Las Vegas or Miami would sure be
different from anywhere in the world. Or another cool one
would be Rio de Janeiro or Buenos Aires, I have a friend
down there who absolutely loves it.

  11. Time Travel - now available! Added by: Matthias (mlufkens@serveur.dtr.fr)
[Timestamp: Sat 20 Feb, 16:17 Tasmanian Standard Time]

What about partying twice and travelling from the year 2000
    back into 1999?
It is possible on the Latvian/Lithuanian border. Celebrate
first in Daugavpils, Latvia (GMT+2) and after midnight take
a bus over the border to Zarasai in Lithuania's lake
district... Lithuania being in Central European Time Zone
    (GMT+1) you can drink again...
I would like to organise this time travel trip and wonder
how much I should charge for this extraordinary experience?
    Candidates and suggestions are welcome.
    :)

  12. what's wrong with staying home Added by: laalaa
[Timestamp: Tue 2 March, 11:14 Tasmanian Standard Time]

    why the escapism?
isn't new years more fun with your friends around?
isn't it nice to go home to your own bed when one is wasted
    on new years?
isn't it enough to go out for a greasy breakfast in the
middle of the afternoon on jan 1?
sorry to be a cow, but sometimes it is ok to stay home.

  13. Afraid I agree with laalaa Added by: Julie
[Timestamp: Wed 3 March, 17:18 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Although all the above suggestions sound fantastic, after
spending 5 years searching for the most memorable, exciting,
fantastic New Years Eve experience I have to conclude that
maybe staying home with your nearest and dearest is the best
way to celebrate. I think NYE has become highly overrated
anyway, but best wishes to everyone searching for the
    ultimate NYE celebration! :)

  14. Just think about this... Added by: Miles (miles.gould@jet.uk)
[Timestamp: Fri 12 March, 4:45 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Any public space, in any city in the world. Thousands of
happy people ringing the new year in, at a time that many
    believe heralds the Apocalypse.
The only way you'll avoid being killed by a mad bomber is
if you're crushed to death by the escaping crowd instead.
And the millenium bug means that all the serial killers
will be let out of their electronically-locked prison cells.
BTW, Edinburgh is my tip if you want to ignore the above.
Celebrating Hogmanay is practically the Scottish national
sport, and Edinburgh is a great city in any case. Don't
    forget your coal!

  15. For Jer Added by: Jure
[Timestamp: Fri 12 March, 23:33 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Jer, when did your math teacher die? Turn of the
millenium in 2001? Do we have millions of idiots
here or just one? And looks like Alpinist thinks
this way, too. Should I explain it for you? OK, here
it comes. 1st century lasted from the years 0 to 99.
2nd from 100 to 199. Etc. 20th century lasted from
    1900 to 1999. And 21st century from 2000 to 2099.
The same goes for millenium: 1st lasted from 0 to
    999. 2nd from 1000 to 1999. Any more questions?

  16. For Jure Added by: Miles
[Timestamp: Sat 13 March, 1:34 Tasmanian Standard Time]

No, the first century lasted from 1 to 100. I doubt that
the bloke who calculated the date of Christ's birth even
knew about the number zero - it was an Islamic invention,
which probably only arrived in Europe with the Crusades.
With that bit of speculation and bluff out of the way, I'll
    sign off.

  17. good for you Jure Added by: LuLu
[Timestamp: Tue 16 March, 6:10 Tasmanian Standard Time]

As I have always learned, the new century starts with 2000
and good for you to speak up. We need to be in a Century
don't we? So last I checked we have been in the 20th. As
soon as we hit Jan. 1, 2000 we will be into the next, the
    21st!

  18. New Millenium Added by: Angel (adiane1@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Thu 18 March, 19:23 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Ahh....well I hate to agree with you guys, but the new
millenium does start in 2001. In fact, there was no year
zero....AD began at 1. So technically and scientifically
the millenium starts in 2001. Although I plan on
celebrating hard come 2000 :) And I hope you guys do to!
Wait...brainstorm. So the millenium bug won't hit until
2001. So what's everyones problem? *L* Whatever you do,
make sure you are with people who love you as much as you
do them. And make it one to remember! After all....2000
only comes once. So does 1999, but we forget that one. Take
    care!

[Timestamp: Sat 20 March, 12:52 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I know you mentioned it, but Edinburgh is fantastic. Buy
quick through, they are incledibly limiting the number of
people who can take part. Why? Because its so good. Why,
because Hogmanay is more important to the Scots than
Christmas. And go early, the festivities start on the 30th.
That's what i figure anyway. Why? Cause I was there? Why? Am
    I bugging you yet?
