Crime-Athens & Santorini???

Howdy Fellow Travellers:
I have read that drugging drinks of tourists and then
stealing their valuables is as popular a crime in Greece as
pickpocketing is in Italy. Is this true? I'm going to
Athens & Santorini next week & was wondering what
precautions, other than ensuring bottled drinks are opened
in front of you, should be taken? This kinda limits buying
mixed drinks at a bar! Any advice is appreciated.

We mostly give drugs to the women, as this makes them
easier to get (if that could be possible). But as long as
    you`re
with someone you know, you will be fairly safe.

I had it happen to me in Athens. I thought the bottle of
ouzo the waiter put on my table was safe, since it was
unopened, but it wasn't! He much have use a hypodermic
needle to drug my drink. I woke in a a dark room having
been beaten, robbed and anally raped.
    ...
It always pays to be careful.

Never heard of such incidents myself. But many bars sell
inferior quality spirits ("bobes" in greek slang), that
will certainly give you an awful hangover. Beer is the
only safe drink in big clubs.

I've lived in Greece all my life and have never heard of
any rape incidents peprpetrated in the fashion described by
the poster named "Been there". However, even the most
expensive clubs tend to dilute their drinks. the worse that
can happen to you is a(very) bad headache the next morning.
In any case, when buying mixed drinks, I would stick to
obscure brands/drinks. You will not be in any danger.

that may explain how we all had a few drinks in a bar in
santorini and then somehow ended up doing Greek dancing on
bars all night with the locals!

Can you tell me the names of those obscure alcohol brands in
Greece? I like to find out about them myself.
