I'm writing this because I'm really tired of hearing how people are worried this a dangerous area. Most of my email friends ask me is situation in Croatia bad.Well,it's not!!!War ended 4 years ago and since than Croatia is completely normal country-and if you consider crime rate and things like that it's safer than New York or LA.When it commes to Kosovo although Croatia has a border with Yugoslavia there are no signs of war-if you would stop watching tv you probably wouldn't know there is some war in the neighbourhood(beside,Kosovo is deep inside Yugoslav territory-few hundred km from Croatia).
Anyway,in Croatia there lots of "musts"-Dubrovnik,Split,Pula,thousands of islands...so,come and visit.

I'd go to Croatia but it just sounds too dangerous.
tell us more about the musts?
"curious" will find that the famous places of Croatia hafe a
web page each if he sets his search engine to, for example,
"Duvbronik tourism".
Also, the Lonely Planet guide to East Europe describes them.

A nice Croatian vacation:
Visit East slavonia (border district)
Bring a friend.
Get him to tell the police that he is a Serb.
Take pictures as they beat him senseless.
Sell your story to a western newspaper.
Spend the money in France instead.
Why such language & hostility? Can you say j-o-k-e? Have
you ever heard of satire?
I was there a couple years ago, and it was beautiful. No problems at all. Going back again in August. Any info. on overland routes into Zagreb. I took a ferry from Venice to Pula last time. Hvala
sanjin-
I understand you completely. I was in Zagreb for a
week during the war (1992) and was not one bit worried about
my well being. Outside of the refugees & UN soldiers in the
city, it was hard to believe all the destruction happening
in other parts of the country, like Vukovar. And if I had
the $$ to go back, I would do it in a heartbeat without one
ounce of worry of the war in Kosova.
I was supposed to study at the University of Zagreb for a
semester in 1991 but decided that I would not go due to the
uncertainity of the war. That was one of the biggest
regrets of my life. For anyone undecided about making the
trip, DO IT! The country is full of beautiful people &
places.
About land routes into Croatia - I'm going this summer
flying into Budapest and taking the train down. I did this
a few years ago when I was staying for a weekend, this time
I'm going for 3 weeks. Does anyone have any recommendations
about places to stay? There's not much in the way of
specific information that I've been able to find. The
lonely planet chapter in the E. Europe book is small and web
pages tend to talk alot about the history and broad
generalities.
Also, we're planning on visiting some islands. Any
favourites?
anyone travelling to those areas should probably try to
blend in as much as possible. there will be people there
who are sympathetics to the serbs and hate NATO and people
from those countries
And what about your fascist president? You should be very
proud about this person.
I'd like to know if he is a dictator or not.
pisces, was that a joke? You should try it and see that
serbs have got more rights in Vukovar than Croats. There is
absolutely no way that police would even think about using
any kind of force (even if they had to). Swerbs have got it
better than ever in the country where it should be
opposite. Have you ever seen any other country treating
its "former" enemy as nice as we do?! That tells you
something about hospitality and well-being of croatian
people. If this is the case in Vukovar (I was there, seen
it) you can imagine how "bad" it would be on the coast.
Thanks for the reassurance, Sanjin. I'm moving to Osijek in
September (teaching fellowship at the university) and am
getting tired of explaining that Croatia is stable and has
been for some time....
More about your "must sees" would be great!
