Silly question but... is there such a thing as canned
Hungarian salami??! Or hermatically sealed (not vacuum
packed) at least? We're not allowed to bring any meat
products back into Canada unless it is thus sealed. Long
story, but my boss requested that I bring some Hungarian
salami back from Budapest for him and I'd really like to
deliver...
btw, does anyone have any good stories about smuggling stuff
through customs? Not that I'm tempted to try of course.. :)

    Hi Maple,
I have bad news for you!You only can try to deliver that
Hungarian Salami for your boss!Because there are only
vacuum packed salami.I have never heard of canned salami
even thought I am Hungarian! But you can take a try!You only
have to go to a simple hungarian supermarket.
And if you really won't find hermatically sealed salami,
try to take your boss a really good and really Hungarian
wine: a bottle of Tokaji asz·!It might please him!
But if he is Hungarian, I only can understand his craving
    for a good salami!

I don't see it being a problem to take vacuum packed
salami, unless things have changed dramatically since the 7
years ago that I brought back salami with no problem. (To
Canada, BTW) As for good smuggling stories, sorry, none...
Canadian customs are REALLY strict with Eastern European
incomers. They check inbetween the dirty underwear at the
bottom of your suitcase if they have the slightest
suspicion. I once tried to bring back tomatoes and yellow
peppers from my grandmother's garden, but they confisgated
that too. It's very sad that the opinion of Eastern Europe
is so frightful, but c'est la vie. Good luck with the
salami! But I definitely agree with the wine.

Thanks for the tips! I will definitely bring back some
wine and my boss will have to be content with gooseliver
pate :) I telephoned the Canadian Import Service Centre and
they said that they were very strict on what is not allowed
into the country, and apparently vacuum seal is not good
enough for meat products. Also, no beef products
    whatsoever.

Am I right to believe you are trying to "hide the salami"
when you enter Canada? The primal male hormone kicks in and
I can imagine where you're hiding it.
Baby you can hide my salami any day.

I have brought in illegal or over-the-limit things into the
US, but I've never been stopped by the custom people. Guess
it depends on luck and an honest face.
