My husband and I are planning around 6 months of travel in
Asia and Europe next year. We don't really want to pack
around guide books for all of the places we are planning to
go. Does anyone know how easy it is to find good guide
books in english en route? Any other suggestions? Also,
we would like to be able to send/receive emails along the
way. Again, suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a quick note in regards to receiving emails along the
    way...
I have just recently come back from Switzerland in April 99
& you'll find alot of the youth hostels have email access
    computers.
If your in the Interlaken area, a great youth hostel you
must stay at is 'Balmers Youth hostel'. They have computers
you can use to access the email for $5 for 15mins, which is
cheap for Switzerland. To stay a night there you'll be
looking at around $21 pp per night including b'fast, you
can't do any better for action & a great alpine location.

Yes there are quite a few Internet Cafes enroute.. but if
you have approx $500 Aus to splash out & you're going to be
away a while, consider a Palm Pilot & modem.. with
International Calls so cheap now using calling cards, you
can easily access your local ISP in Aus, download your
email in a couple of mins.. all for the price 1/2 an hour
at an Internet Cafe would have cost! Plus you can write our
emails as you travel, not have to sit there & hurridly
compose at a acfe. These things are invaluable.. load all
your info before you go & don't have to cary guide books
    etc.

Don't worry at all about finding guide books or info along
the way. Take a book for your first country then relax.
You will meet people with more suggestions of what to do,
where to stay etc than you can handle. Failing that yuo
will be able to pick up 2nd ahnd books in every country
when you arrive. You really will be amazed at how easy it
is! We had the same worries as you when we started out a
    few years ago.ENJOY IT!
