Travel Eastern Europe

I am travelling from England to Olomouc in the Czech
Republic and would like some advice about the best way to do
it. I want to fly somewhere (Vienna, Venice, or Milan) as
cheaply as possible, then spend twenty days making my way to
Olomouc, taking in the surrounding countries- Ljubljana
(Slovenia), Romania, Hungary (Budapest), Krakow, or others.
Any suggested itineraries or advice would be great and tips
as I'll be a lone female traveller and on a tight budget.
Cheers
Vicky

Well Vicky, I think you definately ought to go to Chesky
Kromlow (or however you spell it) if you're hanging aroung
the Czeck republic. It's a fantastic place, with a river a
bit like Durham which goes in a big U aroung the town, you
can hire a rubber ring from some youth hostel I've forgotten
the name of, and float from bar to bar down the river. Stay
off the Absenth, you'll be violently sick and make fool out
of yourself no doubt (as English girls from Durham generally
    do in my experience).
No doubt you aren't very pretty, so I shouldn't worry about
greasy Italians (or perhaps you are more partial to grease
than I suppose?) And don't worry about being a lesbian in
    E. Europe it's not like it used to be.
Stay at the Backpac Hostel in Budapest and go caving, I
don't care if you are clustrophobic, I though I was till i
    did it.
While you're in Romania I'd drop in on Sibiu and say hello
to the Crazy Bikers MC (especialy Micheal) they may even let
you stay in thier club house if mention my name.
If you're on a budget you'll be fine in eastern europe, so
get out of the west as quickly as possible to get the most
milage out of your GBP as possible.
As you speak Czech and Russian why not spend a bit more time
over there and sharpen up (do you no end of good for the
    re-takes!)
Ho Ho Ho I am having fun!
    Luv CB

You'll have a bloody good time wherever you go, I wouldn't
even bother having a fixed idea of where to go - start off
somewhere and you'll meet people, and find out about other
places far more easily than you will from sitting reading at
    home.
Plan the first few days, then head off in whatever direction
you like, stay relaxed about it. If you don't make a plan
    it can't go wrong.

    There's a castle near Olomouc, by the way -- I think it's
called Bizou? Bouchev? and it's very interesting . . . so
you should get out there. Near Cesky Krumlov there's a
nice town called Trebon (we stayed there and took the bus
    to Cesky Krumlov)
    Krakow is amazing.
In Romania, you should go visit the Bukovina painted
monasteries (a must see) and Brasov.
Good luck! I travelled alone there a year ago and I had no
problems (ie, hassles) being a woman there. Watch out for
the train conductors in Romania though, they'll try to get
    bribes from you.

We found that Maldev (spelling?) the Hungarian Airline is
    relatively inexpensive.

I too am a lone lesbian traveller and found many willing
partners in E. Europe. the gay scene in Olomouc was
especially accomodating (I had some of the best experiences
of my life there!) If you want the address of Tatyana
leader of the czech lesbian liberation front, I can supply
it for you.(I can personaly testify for her electrifying
tongue). In Slovenia it is a civil offence to preform
lesbian acts (I was twice arrested for soliciting on the
steet) but that doesn't mean to say you can't find a vibrant
    gay scene!
Don't worry about being a bit of a dog, they arn't fussy.
(I have particularly prolific under arm hair and found no
    problem pulling.)
I am planning to return this summer so if you want to meet
up in Praha some time I am to be found on a street corner
next to the Charles Bridge on most warm evenings, if not
    drop me a line!
    Lots of Love
    Marina xxx
