i need to know if there is any other way of getting to italy from greece besides the ferry. heard that the ferry ride is gross. is it possible to take buses and trains towards albania and croatia and then finally land up in italy? would also love to deop over in croatia. how long would that take if possible and how much would it cost? enroute, are there internet facilities? i'm 23, so i will be using the eurorail youth thingy which i know will not apply to the albania-croatia route, so what can i do?

    Hi
The ferry isn't that bad at all. Sure, it takes 19 hours,
including stopping in Corfu, but it's cheap and you never
know who you might meet on this route. Brindisi and Bari
are lovely towns on the Italian side. Have fun!

the ferry is the best option, other than flying from Rome
to Athens. Check out www.europebyair.com to see if this
may suit your needs, it's a cheap way to go. But if you
think the ferry will be gross, I don't know what you would
consider a multi-day bus ride from Italy thru Albania.

Your choices are either fly or take the boat. If you look
at a map of Europe, you will see that you cannot get to
Croatia from Albania without going through Montenegro which
is part of Yugoslavia ... not the most friendly tourist
destination at the moment. As for Albania ... there are
very few buses running in that direction from Greece anyway.

i don't think you want to head that way at the moment!!! as
for the ferry, it isn't that bad, you can either stay on
deck or book a bed... I stayed on deck a couple of times
and it was a real party atmosphere, disco music, cheap wine
etc, all tired by Corfu though...coming back i was exhausted
from Greece so booked a bed, had the cabin to myself and got
the best 9 hours sleep i had had in months! didn't cost
much either, was clean, had a shower etc.... go the ferry!
the only gross thing about being on deck would have to be
the weather at the time if it's bad, i was travelling in
august/september last year and it was beautiful.... Corfu
isn't too bad for a stopover, the Pink Palace is there which
is a real party hostel, but you can escape the crowds of the
hostel and enjoy the beach of Corfu if you want some time
    out from travelling.... Good luck@

  5. worst night of my life Added by: Kelly (Kellytra@shu.edu)

The absolute worst night of my life was spent on the ferry
from Greece to Italy. If there is any chance for bad
weather, dont be cheap and just pay the $ for a cabin.
