Flights within Turkey

We are going to Turkey for a couple of weeks at the end of
June and wonder about the best way to get around. We will
follow the popular tourist route: Istanbul to Cappadocia to
the coast towards Bohdrum to Ephesus back to Istanbul.
My question is whether it is worth it to fly part of the
way (Istanbul to Cappadocia for example). The bus trips
look pretty gruelling.
Does anyone know how we can find prices, availability, etc.
of flights within Turkey?

    Hi,
We stayed in Istanbul and then flew to Capadoccia on
Turkish Air. You are correct about the bus ride being
grueling. We had a private guide who met us in Istanbul and
then he took the bus so he could meet us in Capadoccia. It
took him a long time, I think a day.
You can call Turkish Air in the U. S. at an 800-number. I
don't know where you are, but Turkish Air must have local
toll-free numbers. It was a very fine airline; we flew from
Chicago to Istanbul on it, too.

I did the overnight bus from Istanbul to Goreme three weeks
ago. It's not great if you can't sleep in a vertical
position but it's about 10 hours and bypasses Ankara (about
$12 US). I also did a 7 hour from Goreme to Pamukkale
($8US). From Pamukkale it was 3 hours to Selcuk (Ephesus)
($2.50 US). I guess the trade off is the price. You might
pay ten times a bus ticket for a plane. Happy travels!

I don't know if there is a flight from Istanbul to Capp, but
there is a new flight service from Istanbul to Nevesir(about
half an hour from Goreme), the bus is tiring. I took the bus
from Ankara, it took 5 hours, it took me 3 days to get over
it.Buses sound romantic, you do meet local people but you
end up becoming brain dead. Where are you staying in Capp?

Thanks for the advice you have convinced me that flying over
the long hauls has to be better even it it costs so much
more. I have been tossing up whether to take the plane and
then miss out on meeting locals or go by bus and be
exhausted at the other end. Does anyone know a website which
would have the airfares and timetables for inside Turkey.

I ended up booking a flight -- $90 US. Now I need to decide
on a good hotel in Cappadocia. Recommendations?

I stayed at Rosie's pension(its big in LP) it was ok, not
cheap for a single then really up-market at Esbelli Eve in
Urgup. EE was nice but expensive. EE has its own website. EE
had the advantage of being very near a hotel, the Turban
,which had a pool. I swim every day & I do like pools.
    Have a good trip!

This note is for others who may be intersted.
In Istanbul Sirkeci station, below Topkapi Saray, you can
book onto the daily train. It leaves the Asian shore,
Haydarpasa, at 2300, but since the station has a good buffet
you might like to get there early for your supper. The
train has first class sleepers next to the restaurant car:
the sleepers are clean and comfortable and the restaurant
car has beer and fresh and good food, though if you want
wine, peanuts, or fruit you should take them on board
ourself. You reach Ankara at 1042, trundle into Cappodocia,
and reach Kayseri at 1855. The fare with sleeper is about
40 US dollars: meals are six dollars each. So it is more
expensive and a little slower than a bus, but far more
    restful and pleasant.
Please write if I can help further.
