I am driving to Hamburg from Calais with work and will stop
over one night with some other work mates. I think
Osnabruck, Bremen, Dusseldorf and Hannover are on the way,
but have absolutely no idea what any of them are like
HELP!!!!
Any ideas would be great
Thanks -
Annie

  1. Munster or Osnabruck Added by: Ben Haines (benhaines@aapi.co.uk)

Dusseldorf was bombed to bits in the forties, and is now a
wholly modern city in the middle of the great Ruhr-Rhine
industrial area. Hannover, too, was much bombed but looks
quite good these days: it is not on a direct route from
Ostend to Hamburg. Bremen is well rebuilt with much charm,
but is not at all halfway: you're well on the way to Hamburg
by then. So I put my money on Oldenburg, with an eighteenth
century centre, not too big to find parking. Or perhaps
better Munster, similar in character, but a bit smaller, and
more nearly halfway between your start and your finish.
You could write now to the Tourist Information Office of
each city (that's enough address for the post office) to ask
for a hotel list and a small map of the city centre. Of
course, what you want is a central hotel, or pub, with
    parking space
Please write if I can help further.
