Sexual identity crisis

This topic was created by Bingo

I am disturbed that because my handle does not allude to
what gender I am, people immediately assume I am male. This
annoys me. I am now setting the record straight. I may not
post waffling philosophies on love and relationships like
Mermaid, or bore everyone with details of my incredibly
bland dates like Single girl, or talk about the prom like
Mariam. I may not like Alanis Morrissette, or wank on about
how grey is 'the black of the Nineties', but I am female
and would like everyone to recognise this fact.
I am also under the impression that the bulk of posters on
this site are female too, am I right?????

brown was the new black for most of the ninties, and grey
assumed the mantle fairly recently. no?

xtatic - yes brown was black early on, so I guess you could
say that grey is the black of 2000-2010, whatever we're
    going to call that decade.
Alanis - you don't know what ironic means you poor rich kid

  6. Sorry Added by: Cardinal

It's like rain on your wedding day. or a traffic jam when
you're already late. Or, when all you have is a knife and

Don't tell me I don't understand irony. Cuz I do.

[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 10:38 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Why the fighting ? Bingo, I must confess that my first
impression was that you were male. I stand corrected, why
the fuss though ? My previous handle was angelfool, I
didn't see it as typically female but I gather that most
TTYCer's knew I was female, probably from my typically
female posts (?). I couldn't care who is what sex and what
sex they like, it's not important. Bickering like school
children is why a lot of people leave TTYC, it ruins the
decent threads. Live and let live.
    Cheers.

Most people know I'm a fella and I should think most here
would be beside themselves with joy if I were involved in
some kind of horrific, tragic accident involving nails,
paint, and several tons of sawdust.

I feel like we need some excitment around here at the
moment. Something to bring everyone out of the woodwork.

  15. angelfool Added by: Bingo
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:02 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Hmmmmm. I am not fighting with anyone, so I think you are
misinterpreting my post. So perhaps the reason "you are no
longer here" (a bit of a contradiction) is because you are
seeing hostility in posts that are not actually hostile,
making yourself unhappy. I think people should be happy
with who they are and not be so sensitive. I am merely
stating that I am female and just because I don't limit my
posts to purely 'feminine' topics it shoudn't be assumed
that I am male. Sorry if I offended you angelfool.

  16. Ummm, Bingo.... Added by: Mariam
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:10 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I've been posting on the TTYC for over half a year now, and
the prom topic was the only topic whatsoever relating to
anything feminine or romantic. It's not like I walk around
talking about the prom or all the of the time....
By the way, I knew that you were female before. If people
accidentally assume that you are male, don't worry about it
too much, but if it bothers you a lot, you could always
change your handle. I like your handle though....

  17. I am Added by: SINNI

    Female.

  18. Mariam Added by: Bingo
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:23 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Come on - how many guys post on their prom? I wasn't
attacking your topic though, I contributed and it was fun.
I don't mind my handle either. I doesn't bother me very
much, its just strange that in lieu of any sex-determining
comments/topics everyone just assumes the poster is male! I
guess the advantage of conversing in cyberspace is that you
can be whoever you want. I don't want to change it because
then no one would know who I was!

  19. Bingo... Added by: angelfool
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:29 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I see hostility all over TTYC and it makes me sad. This is
a wonderful place to find some very interesting topics and
some incredibly insightful people. However the childish
rantings and abuse that gets hurled around here drives
people away. Not saying that you are one of them, but the
first few posts here showed the beginnings of yet another
ruined thread. Glad to say that it hasn't declined as I
thought it would. No offence taken, as I don't believe any
was intended. Stay true to yourself and it doesn't matter
    who thinks what about you.
    Cheers.

  20. Bingo.... Added by: Mariam
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:30 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I'm glad you won't change your handle....consider this: at
least if you're mistaken for a male the probability of being
stalked by some wacko on the thorn tree is much less than
if you were percieved to be a female....

  21. Thanks guys Added by: Bingo
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:44 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Glad we managed to diffuse any tension there.I think
hostility is pretty reactionary and ends after a couple of
posts if you persevere. There's a nice chat happening above
about Sydney pubs if you're interested (you can inject a
little about American pubs if they exist) How was your prom
by the way Mariam? Has it happened yet? Did you go to the
beach with your friends? I haven't recieved an update!

  22. Damn Added by: Cardinal
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:48 Tasmanian Standard Time]

So many things unsavoury comments could be said at this
moment in time but unfortunately I am not the person to do
it. Mariam if you are referring to the post regarding the
prom dilemma I thought that was great fun too. Hope it
    wasn't at anyones expense.

  23. Bingo and Carindal..... Added by: Mariam
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:52 Tasmanian Standard Time]

It turns out my parents wouldn't let me go to the beach or
the prom (actually only my dad wouldn't agree to it). I
wasn't as upset as I thought I would be, especially since
instead of going to the beach I ended up going to a great
party and had lots of fun. I guess there are bigger things
in life than the prom, and I doubt not being able to go will
    significantly alter my life....

[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 12:06 Tasmanian Standard Time]

That is awful? And I wanted all the juicy details and all!
At least you had a good time at the party....
Was IS prom short for - promenade, promotion???? Xtatic we
are refering to a conversation ages ago where Mariam was
worried about being naughty on the beach and whether her
parents would let her go to the prom. Unfortunately by the
sounds of it her father was two steps in front of her! The
Australian equivalent is the formal, but I don't think it
compares to the American prom experience! Limos, corsages,
and nights in hotels afterwards. I remember at my formal (i
    was 16 - I'm really into reminiscing today aren't I?) there
was a party afterwards and there was a huge tent crammed
with mattresses and writhing bodies. Yuck yuck yuck!
I didn't go to the formal with anyone, but I was asked four
    times!

  27. my formal Added by: xtatic
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 12:11 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I ended up going with this girl who insisted on making a
really big deal out of everything. I had to to put in for
limo's, corsages etc, though i did manage to talk her out
of making me wear a gold vest with gold bow tie (so she
could wear gold shoes and put gold tinsel in her hair).
    Ohh the tackiness!

[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 12:23 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Living out in the 'bush' (pop. 50,000) we had heaps of
formals and they were quite big events. I never did one but
I attended many and had an absolute ball every time. I am
not sure how mauch fun they would have been if we didn't
have to sneak in grog and had been of legal age.

  30. .. Added by: Bingo
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 12:28 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Poor xtatic. Thats horrible. If its any consolation I
looked like a whore at my formal - and it was all my
doing...Short black dress, feather boa, red hair, heels.
Yes, the smuggled grog exentuated the atmosphere
tremendously at my formal, spew on the road, spew in the
toilets, spew on the dance floor. At my Year 12 formal at
New Parliament house a whole group shot up speed in the
toilets. Not quite as glamorous as the Beatles dropping
    tabs in Buckingham Palace!

And I'm sure you all know what gender I'm admitting too. Just picked up a kayak for my daughter at the airport. Bought it used from a guy in Texas. A real deal. The first Mother - Daughter kayaking team in our area. Seems to be a good way to get throught the teen years. Hey Mariam what did you and your Mom do?

You caught me out, I really am a girly swat. I love talking
about proms and relationships. My fave books/movies are
Pride and Prejudice and Room with a View. I consume
women's magazines and self help books with a ravenous
appetite. I am a fraud I tells ya!

  35. sounds like... Added by: angelfool
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 13:04 Tasmanian Standard Time]

every one here really enjoyed their formal/prom. Mine was
the same. Fully hyped, drunken and disorderly. Must say
that saying you looked like a whore is a tad harsh isn't it
Bingo. I never wear dresses so my formal dress was a huge
issue, for my mum and dad. Seeing their little girl in a
pretty dress. I felt like a retard/barbie doll, but didn't
look half bad, so I am told. My school had a rule that each
year one sex had to ask the other to the formal and the
next year the other had to ask. In my year 12 it was the
girls turn, yay. I got really trashed and asked this guy
friend who was, still is, the sweetest man on earth. He
said yes ! He was about 6 years older with a gorgeous
little son and a beautiful nature. Of course we ran out of
petrol while out getting our hair done, had to push the
damn V.W bug three blocks to get petrol. Got home and
dressed and photos taken. Went back to my dates place with
about 10 others and got ready, trashed and all the rest.
Our lift, Matty in his combie, was 1 hour late and we got
restless. We walked the 9/10 blocks to our town hall and
joined the masses. My mum had left 5 min earlier, she had
gotten sick of waiting for me to arrive, my older sister
was out front with some her friends and I walked straight
past her. She grabbed me and gave me the usual
lecture, "you're fucking trashed, lucky mum left, the
teachers aren't going to let you in"etc. We got in
successfully and proceeded to boogie away. Spent alot of
the time outside shoeless and fagging. My date who happens
to be an extremely excellent dancer, he throws himself
around to the beat, just happened to throw himself onto the
Head Master, twice. After wards we checked out the parties,
they were lame. So we went home by 3 am and jumped into
bed, same bed, kept our hands and other body parts seperate
though, unfortunately. All in all a good memory.

[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 13:27 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Seriously though, I think you have hit the nail on the head. Most people on this site assume all mildly aggressive and witty posters are male, and most of the time they couldn't be further from the truth. I usually refer to a poster as IT unless I know they are male or female, but then what I know of their gender is only what they have said in the 1st place, which could be untrue. But really, does gender matter? I for one have no intention of meeting anyone from this site and am not trying to pick up anyone because I am happily married, but it doesn't mean I can't engage in a bit of tomfoolery and discussion when I feel like it. Why should the validity of anyone's comments hinge on their gender? I can say fuck, shit and fart (I don't like the C word) and be male or female. Shouldn't matter at all.

Aren't memories grand. Some of my favorite memories centre
around me thinking I was sooooo cool when I was at school.
Life was so simple. Now I am having trouble keeping uni and
work together, I have the fucking debt collectors after me
