I am the only one on YC who's ever been

to? Ok you hosers, quit moaning about imposters and tell
me if any of you have been to places you are sure other
YCers won't have been to. While most of you wankers
haven't been beyond the well-worn trail from computer to
toilet to kitchen to dole office, some of us have actually been
somewhere. I will start with 2 places not one of you dope-
heads has ever been:
Bokondini (Irian Jaya)
Pulangpisau (Kalimantan).
This quiz should satisfy those among you who see obscure
destinations as a prize to be won and boasted and dreamed
about. You others blobs who never leave your computer
desks, this might inspire you to do so.
Ciao

  1. Why are you trying to show off? Added by: Mariam
[Timestamp: Sun 23 May, 12:34 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Actually, there are a lot of people here who have been to
less traveled destinations. It's great that you've seen
these unusual and fascinating places, but you really
shouldn't make such generalizations. However, I can see how
you could make such a conclusion due to the past couple of
    days' posts.

  2. Ahh, we meet again. Added by: Basil Assad

Who has been to the village of Quickstep in the Me No Sen
You No Come section of the Cockpit Country in Jamaica?

Or, how about the Inuit village of Koartak on the Ungava
Peninsula? Or Moosonee on James Bay?

Or, the North Pole? (I didn't actually touch down but
    circled it a dozen times).

site. William, where are you? drawdE? plasticpaddy?

3 out of 4 Guineas(the African ones). Cameroonian fascist
official told me he didn't understand my idea of tourism!
Any of you been to Papua and one of the African ones(or any
of the Guyanas/Guianas, for that matter)? Qatar, anyone? By
the way, my grandma could take the Polar Bear Express to
    Moosonee and back.

  12. Been there, done that... Added by: Robert, M.O.
[Timestamp: Sun 23 May, 17:49 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Sorry to say Basil but I *HAVE* been to Bokondini...as well
as: Yiwika, Dugun, Elegaima, Hetagima, Manda, Kurima,
Merauke, Yanggandur, Manokwari, Tanah Merah, Korem, Warso,
Serui, Kajasi, Ambroben, Pugima, Kimbim, Mokmer, Numfor,
Padoa, etc. And these are off the top of my head. I'm sure
that with a map and some of my travel notes I could come up
with quite a few more...and this is just with Irian Jaya.

Question: So why are you bragging about having been to a
remote missionary outpost? There is nothing at all
    remarkable about Bokondini.

  13. ..and a short quiz Added by: Robert, M.O.
[Timestamp: Sun 23 May, 17:55 Tasmanian Standard Time]

So Basil, since you mentioned a 'quiz' then tell us all what
    the name 'Kalimantan' means!

Bonus points for Irian Jaya also...any one of the 'official'
    meanings that is.

  14. Angus Added by: Charles
[Timestamp: Sun 23 May, 18:31 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Yeah, I've been to Papua New Guinea.
The most obscure place I've been would have to be
Antarctica, although these days it is becoming much more of
    a "must do" for travellers.

  15. Angus Added by: Damn it....
[Timestamp: Sun 23 May, 18:32 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Sorry, got my handle & the post title mixed up there !

Amdafog is on the border of Sudan and The Central African
Republic. I went through there on a camel about 10 years
ago. There was no motorized transport or roads through
there when I went, and I did about 500km by combination of
    donkey, camel, and walking.

Dongo, Congo is on the Ubangui river on the border of the
ex French and Belgian congos. I paddled through there in a
dugout canoe with a Candian guy. Fairly remote, and a cool
    name too.

  19. a town called... Added by: SuperFly T.N.T

    cheers!

  20. RoMO, knew you'd show up here Added by: Dawit
[Timestamp: Mon 24 May, 5:30 Tasmanian Standard Time]

In addition to "where" you've all been, "when and how", as
illustrated by Steve, might add to(or detract from) some of
the great white explorer mystique you're trying to
demonstrate. Maybe even "why" is appropriate, and "what"
you did there. Somehow I think RoMO would prove to be a
most interesting traveler -- he has a profound and multi-
level understanding of the places he's been.

    Interesting thread, nonetheless.

  21. Hey Basil old boy! Added by: Billieboy

Were you ever in Balikpappan? do a nice line in boot polish
and candles, or perhaps Khor al amaya( a steel island in the
gulf for loading ships with oil, built at Swan Hunters on
the Tyne; but of course you were wer'n't you. such a well
travelled and spoken bloke must have been just everywhere.

How about the "Black Kat" bar in Genoa? or "Gobblers Gulch"
in Colon?, or the "Madhouse" in Willemstat Curacao?
