After reading all the excellent comments about travel from so many different people, I just wondered............where are you all calling from??
Because we all sit at home cloistered in our little house I think it would make interesting reading to see where you all are,
SO,,,,,,,,, WHERE ARE YOU ALL?????

I'm a semi-professional travel resource from Fargo, North
Dakota, and anytime you need any travel advice or personal
companionship, let me know! Thanks!
Hi, I`m a professional pilot and doing a degree in geography. And I`m talking from planet Earth`s most beautiful city : Rio de Janeiro , Brazil.
I'm in Busselton in Western Australia. Down the south west corner.
Come on you travellers....come and visit us. Beautiful weather and right in the middle of our wine growing area. And you can dive on a recently sunk warship in the bay.
For the time being, my love-partner and I are spending this
winter on the beautiful island of Okinawa away from the
chrome and the concrete and the noise of the city in a
beautiful flower-filled bungalow overlooking a small bay. I
have never felt so lazy in my life--which is probably why I
have been perusing the Thorn Tree lately! I abandoned my
Japanese class after the second lesson because---ehweljrej,
lame excuse--no one here speaks that language. They all
speak Okinawan.
To Paul, Curious, and everyone else, have a wonderful year
of travelling and loving.
Sparky (sorry I can't give an e-mail address; I am sponging
time off a company server)
hi i am in bombay, i work for a destination marketting
company in bombay. i come here cause i have travelled
exxtensively and might be able to help and also because

Rushina
And you ,Curious, where are you from?
I am in Perth, Western Australia.
Hello, I'm with a friend in Sydney.
We are having so much fun perusing the Thorn Tree postings !!
As you can see in #1, our old friend Paul C┤avitt is back.
We missed him a long time for his amusing postings.
Welcome back, Paul.
Friend of Dorothy enjoys the ThornTree and all its branches.
Just love to read the postings. Keep the postings coming!!
I'm from the Hoosier State (Indiana), where no one can
explain to me what the heck a Hoosier is. I live on 27
acres of wooded land and pasture and have no neighbors.
Sometimes at night I lay on my sleeping bag outside on my
lawn and watch for shooting stars. Besides that, Indiana is
just pretty durn boring.
I'm a loudmouthed yank but currently in North London,
specifically St Albans. And I hope not to offend anyone,
but it is one of the most uninteresting places I've ever
been (except for some cow town in North Florida). The only
thing that keeps me sane is reading the Thorn Tree on my
lunch breaks and going to London twice a week.
Boring old Bradford in the UK i'm afraid......zzzzzzz
I live in beautiful Asheville, North Carolina (USA). I'm
Dutch and an environmental engineer. I plan to move soon
since I'm ready for a change.
Perth W.A. Carn the Dockers!
I'm in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) of
Minnesota where yet another 3 inches of snow is in the
process of falling. It's absolutely beautiful....but, I
think I'm ready for a week in the sun.
Where the monuments and museums are enriching and the surrounding city is down right dangerous at times! The capitol of the United States.
Hello all!!
=)
I live ust outside a town called Guildford in the south of England. I have an incredibly boring job selling technical sales to manufacturers. The good news is that the company has its own server so I spend all day on the web !!! The est of the time I submit CompuServe bills but recently I have had trouble justifying the bill !!
I'm now stuck in Boise, Idaho. But, home is Songkhla,
Thailand.
Making a living in Nuuk, Greenland and holidays in Thailand,
cause Thailand is hot!
Feeding off the Thorntree when not out there.
Heaven
I come from the " Land of Study Rabbits, er I mean Habits",
which is Connecticut, USA. State Flower: Mountain Laurel.
State Bird: Robin. State Mammal: Whale ( probably Right not
wrong).
Keep posting!
I'm from Wales. I'd love to go to Rio, where LPI comes from.
I'm in Ojai, a town of about 8 thousand about 70 miles north
of LA, SE of Santa Barbara. There is a web site for Ojai, believe it or not. It's 66 deg F with bright sun today (yesterday it drizzled non-stop.)
Colin (it's O-hi)
I'm visitng this site more and more often from Phoenix, Arizona, where it's tooooo sunny (I love clouds and rain - boy, am I in the wrong place!)
I'm the visually stimulating but socially boring island of B
ermuda. sorry to the locals
I am visiting this site from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
wow, I'm amazed there are so many responses so fast. I may
as well join in.
I'm from Alice Springs in Central Australia, where it is
always warm and sunny
Dave
i'm also visiting this post from vancouver island; more
specifically from victoria, the capital of b.c. lots of
rain here this morning, though it's going to be a sunny
afternoon. cheers...
Lots of people from lots of sunny places, I'll join in - I'm
posting from Los Angeles, California, USA. Where the sun
shines when the smog doesn't. Hack, hack.
I follow this site from the seaside town of Torquay,
Victoria in the south east of Australia. It is a hot
42 degrees Celcius today. Thank god for the beach!
I check out the Thorntree and LP site every time I travel,
which is frequent.
Im from Rutland in beautiful Vermont! Official Motto:
"Betcha' cant name one of our cities". Area: 9,600 sq. mi.
Capitol: Montpelier (pop. 7,400). Famous Sons and
Daughters: Phish (yup, just Phish).
Laredo, Texas..... Don't come here unless you absolutely
have to, and even then, cross the border and travel deep
into the interior of Mexico.
Rome, Italy
At the moment I'm in a small village near Pusan-southern South Korea, but in 32 short days, I'm off to the land of smiles (Thailand that is) and from there...wherever fate takes me! Greetings to the rest of you out there!
Stuck at home again in southern Sydney... experiencing my
first full summer at home in Sydney in years - the cricket,
the beach, the WEATHER!!! Travelled a lot on/off since Jan
92 til Mar 97, all continents except South America - spent
more time abroad than home! (Fun with a big 'F'!) Now I'm
trying my hand at 'normal life' (and hating it) - the pangs
are back again and now I'm planning to go to Madagascar
sometime end of 1998, then maybe on to South America... For
me I s'pose that's really the normal life!
Oh yeah, must add, I highly recommend Iceland! Go there!
cheers all!
- sheldon
Yup, I'm from Vancouver, and I love it (although of course I'd rather be travelling)! If anyone is planning a journey including this fair city, feel free to email me for tips/advice!
I'm in lovely and cold Montreal (Quebec), Canada. Pretty
chilly tonight (under -15 Celsius) and we're still digging
this place up from under the ice storm of the century. Last
week there were 2 million of us without power !
*
Hi to all my fellow Canadians, especially the "BCians" - I
love your neck of the woods. Oh, and hi again Colin !
Originally from the LBC, presently in Praia, CV.
Yes, some of us leave this lovely valley setting to see the
world. We all come back though, now, ya hear?
yea, i'm a little arrogant but san
francisco cal. is a great area of the
world. we seem to have a great
selection of the world here
Hailing from the Rural Bliss of Wisconsin. Lovely state.
But dont tell anyone :)
Auckland, NZ :-)
And I'm stuck in Durham, England with rain on the brain. But
I'm off to Damascus and Aleppo next week, weather no better,
but I might just see some snow !
cambridge, uk (not mass.!) - for now!
I hiked my booty to this computer lab through a beautiful
night snow storm. Already adding to the accumulation. I am
a student at Waterloo, in Canada. Travel when the money is
aplenty. NOT NOW. If not travelling, dreaming and doing
outdoor thing. Just like to say "hello" to everyone. I
just said hello to people all over teh world.
"We are the hounds.
The brash county hounds.
AROOSTOOK COUNTY RULES."
I've never seen a site fill up so quickly. Great to "hear" from you all.
Thanks a lot for alleviating my curiousity!!

in Taipei, Taiwan at the moment.
I'm from Karratha in the North West of Australia, an area known as the Pilbara. Hot and dry most of the year, untill a cyclone, then it's hot and wet.
Morph.
I'm in London now, but am heading off to Tahiti and
Australia not a moment too soon!
...but currently in Finsbury Park, London. Curious, you've
really started something here!!! :-)
hi i┤m a radiostation-newsannouncer in berlin, and i like to

of the world: A.C. MILAN!
Born in Yorkshire (NE England), grew up in Glasgow (Scotland), lived in Sydney (Australia) for last ten years, and now working in Singapore and travelling around Asia when I can. Love to stay on the move. Keep posting!
Lampang , Thailand
Where abouts in Yorkshire..Ian?
Has there ever been more responses to a posting?? I live in a small village just outside Newbury, England. My days currently are spent at my office in Swindon going cross-eyed over the recently discovered Thorn Tree - it is offering invaluable and entertaining info in preparation for my up-coming RTW trip. What a great web site!!
PC
I am from Holsbeek in Belgium, the land of beer and
chocolate, the country you pass through when traveling from
Amsterdam to Paris. It is worth a stop though.
Groetjes!!
Don't we all just love to share.
Are there any people with the knowledge of a french or
spanish speaking type of traveller thorn tree.
We are all quite secluded speaking english or no.
Who knows other languages?
I live in Bergen, Norway. We have snow, sun and 25 degrees
Fahrenheit. Looking forward to the spring and summertime in
Norway and the invasion of tourists from all over the world.

To Moanna - hablo espanol, but not enough to hold a conversation on the Web!
I'm from the Mornington Peninsula (wine country) about an
hour's drive (and 40 minutes on the motorbike if I split
lanes!) from Melbourne Australia. It's summer here. How can
I explain to you what that's like? You know that Larson
cartoon where the little guy sits sweltering in his office
all day on the sun, and it's his job to pull a lever which
makes the sun set and rise? It's kind of like that, only
it lasts for AT LEAST THREE WHOLE MONTHS OF THE YEAR! Can't
wait to get to the UK this August. That gives me eight
months to get rid of my damn freckles! Blast our Aussie
summers.
I'm English, from Manchester UK. now living in Singapore.
Been here three years now.
Hey Curious,
I'm from Alpha Centuri, oh wait, I wasn't supposed to say
that part,
I'm from Philly, yeah that's it. Philadelphia.
Coming to you from Minneapolis/St.Paul, Minnesota, Midwest USA. Um....a nice place to visit the 'real' America, if you can bear the winters. Born and raised here but spent time in Europe and Asia...might be nice to meet some other Minneapolitans face to face?
I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio, born and raised here, but I love to travel and I hope to be off again as soon as I can! But for now, I'm slaving away temping in the secretarial pool earning $$$ for my next trip.
And I would love to have a spanish pen-pal! Moana, your idea about a spanish/french thorn tree branch is great. I have just come back from teaching english in Ecuador, and it is so hard to keep up a second language here in the midwest. So if there are any spanish-speakers out there, please write to me!
Were in your town Lampang, it has a rooster as a hallmark. Dined in a nice restaurant by the river, said a prayer in your wat.
I'm from Swede and there's nothing special to tell about this land.
Georgia, USA!
IN Sarawak, Borneo island of tropical Malaysia...am off to
Scandinavia to freeze all m'bits off in about 4 days...see
you there?? :) Come over mates!! Its ace! And yes, I am
BIASED! Hahah :) TRUST ME!

To Emma: theres a lot to talk about your land. Sweden is
beautiful!.
Home is London...but I'm not there.
Presently in Oman and have been for the past year. I can recommend a visit - it's a toss up between here and Yemen as to the most beautiful country in the Middle East.
Mr Curious, it's funny how the simple questions are best...
I'm just a little country girl from Midland, Michigan,
U.S.A.My goal in life is to live through raising 4 children
and seeing every corner of the world.
I am in London... but home is not there.

I can't locate. NOBODY from Africa, Middle East, Pacific
Islands, Eastern Europe to name just a few. Even my
next-door neighbour, Eire is missing.
Come on - speak up!
Frank
In the beautiful (and cheap and laid-back) Ozarks. Can't get here without your own car--but any world-travellers passing this way are welcome to stop by. E-mail us ahead.

Hi all
I'm a brit, but I live in the Netherlands, and I personally feel I'm a european.
I've got both dutch and english nationality and I've lived in both countries.
Selene
Frank , no offense , but you forgot to count me , from Rio de Janeiro , BRAZIL . And there is someone in Africa since Praia is in Cape Verde .
Sorry, LPI - I MUST try harder! It's strange that I should
miss you out because I am all too aware of your interesting
postings and often wished I could have visited Rio!
OK about Praia and thanks to Jim for the location
of Aroostook.
Just to enlighten you, Frank, Oman is in the Middle East.
Where did you learn your geography?
OK Phil, as I said, it was a rough check.......!
Ok, born in Thailand, so that was my home. Then moved to
Ireland, so that became my home, then moved to Canada, so
now this is my home. Hey, the world is my home, but I'm
living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada right now, land of a
million snow drifts.
after reading all these posts, well, I thought I might as
well add a country that was missing! What's the matter, no
other Greeks visiting this site?
Hi to everybody!
Originally from Grantham, Lincolnshire. Lived in Cyprus and also Cincinnati, Ohio. Currently living in Kas, Turkey and spending time in lovely Leicester, England - not!!! Got to work you know so I can go and drink myself stupid in Kas all summer!!! It's a hard life!
Just left sunny Rio de Janeiro to spend a week here at the
Tibet of the Americas.I`m posting my travel log in the South
America section .Adios de Bolivia.
Thougt i might add one more contry to this list. I┤m in
Reykjavφk the capital of Iceland. Sometimes I feel a little
bit to isolated here, so the Thorntree helps me remember the
excistans of the rest of the world.
last 3 years go something like this:
vancouver, edinburgh, vancouver, toronto...we won't go in
to what happened before...
moving again sometime in the next few years...
No idea why, but this list of messages is so touching. I'm
in New York City, how about we all get together for a chow
down?
right now I'm home in Summit Point, West Virginia dreaming
about my upcoming trip to Spain
Praia is in the Cape Verde Islands and I think Aroostook
County is in Maine (USA). Me? I'm originally from the LA
area but my heart's in San Francisco.
I am in Canberra, although (reluctantly) just back from 2
months as John in Quito.
.
Nice to (virtually) see you all, folks.
I live on the resort island of Martha's Vineyard...have
done a bit of travelling...this site is stirring up the old
wanderlust...so happy to have stumbled upon it!!!...Can
anyone explain why the dateline for the postings is
Tasmanian Standard? Thanks :)
Live in Vancouver. Work in theatre wherever. Recently
returned from an absolutely fabulous five weeks in Oaxaca,
Mexico. Explored the area (plus a week in and around Mexico
City)and studied at a Spanish language school. If you ever
want to study Spanish in Mexico, I definitely recommend the
Instituto Cultural Oaxaca in Oaxaca City. The school is
beautiful and the teachers are fabulous! A great time to go
is end of October into November, to be there for the Day of
the Dead. Does anyone have any info on Spanish language
schools in Spain?
LP's headquarters are in Melbourne, which is just
(north) across the Bass Strait from Tasmania. Melbourne and
Tasmania are in the same time zone, but the time zone in
which they both lie (and the one which is stamped on my
posts) is called Eastern Standard Time or Eastern Summer
Time depending on the time of year. As the time in Tasmania
is also the time in Melbourne, I assume the Tasmanian
standard time thing is a sort of joke. I suspect there is a
Taswegian hidden in the bowels of the LP website.
.
Comment, Jane?
Hi,
I'm from Malaysia, that's in south east asia, beneath thailand, above indonesia, in case you don't know.
And where may i ask ar you from?
Get out! There's more to live out there.
I'm from Singapore. I work in the computer industry. Presently preparing for a trip to India for the Kumbh Mela, and perhaps afterwards head off to Tibet.
Hi
Like Kevin (#86) I'm not too sure where I come from but I'm currently writting from Rochester (US) and will be proceding to India / Australia in another couple of months. peace .... ACE.
In between trips at the moment, so I'm sitting at my desk
here on 6th Avenue having lunch...
Conducting research in Antarctica in the warm summer sun.
I am from the glorious fog drenched city of San Francisco,
where I currently perched at my desk at a small advertising
agency located in the wildly inappropiatly named neighorhood
of the Sunset, where the sun never sets due to a perpetual
fog.
I have also lived in lovely San Luis Obispo California,
Fukui, Japan, and the Rectum of Christiandom: Colorado
SPrings, Colorado -- a hideous pit of conservatism under the
shadow of Pikes Peak.
I'm from Bemidji. That's in Minnesota, USA. It is eerily close
to Fargo. But not to worry; I'm presently in the mountains
of eastern Utah, USA.
Gods own country!!
Helsinki, Finland
See above...Helsinki, Finland, -15 C but sunny....
Hi Anna - let┤s go to the beach! I┤ll take my shovel with

Following this thread it's easy to see we're all just
residents of the world. And when we all talk civil, it's
not such a lonely planet. (Call me Pollyanna!) Here's
coming to you from the rurals of the US state whose
residents talk about "Minnesota Nice" like it's a stigma.
Hey, we can't all live in exotic places. Doesn't mean we
have to be provincial, though.
Hey, we had to have someone from Qatar.
I'm a German living and working in Berne, Switzerland.
Beautiful place, so close to the Alps. Go for skiing every
weekend. And there are the high peaks for the summer
climbing.
Haven't learnd speaking proper Schwiizerduetsch yet.
I feel more like a citizen of Europe rather than like a
German or whatever.
Being a local Tassie gal I can inform you that "Tasmanian

Hey curious,
great post.Watching flames is funny, but this is even
better.I am living in canterbury, UK, but am originally from
Port Elizabeth SA, although, if you ask me what my
nationality is I'd have to pass.My passport says British,
but I dont believe everything I read. How can we keep this
thread up for longer, as it is liable to be removed soon,
from what I have seen of TT.It is the best thread on the TT,
and ought to be preserved. All in agreement say AYE!!
At work in the city, Melbourne -Australia.
Where the first day of Spring brings with it 15 cm of snow.
This is a great thread - keep it going.
I live in the Tasmanian Standard Time Zone too. I am from
the Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia, where I live on a
small farm. We have wild kangaroos in our back paddock most
mornings and evenings, and flocks of cocatoos and bright
coloured parrots all year. A great place to come home to,
especially for an addicted traveller like me.
At work, but soon in Jakarta, then Sulawesi, then back to
Oslo again all too soon. Only lived in one other country,
Alabama, US, (exchange student some years back). If anyone
have joboffers for two (computers, quality insurance) in
Africa or SE Asia, I would like to try to live somewhere
different for a time, not only visit. Oslo is not so bad,
but I long to try something different (and warmer.)
I've just finished work and am off to the gym (in
Newcastle, England)
Happy to add to list of responses. Go Big Blue
No one else yet from Hong Kong....so here's a new one for
the running total.

Clinton, OK. Pop approx 8000. Home of world famous (that 's what they tell me anyway) greasy spoon Pop Hicks on Route 66.
Home of lots of colleges and cool stuff, right across the
river from Boston. Originally from Wheeling, WVA, driver's
liscence still says Winston-Salem, NC.
Dublin, Ireland. A wonderful place to be despite the fact is rains alot (gives you a good excuse to go down to the pub...)
I'm among the misty mountains of the west. whether they're Rocky, Cascading, or near the coast, I feel they belong to me. although I have been thinking of relocating to either Dublin or the Lake District in England. none the less I will always call the best place on earth my home...Vancouver, BC!!
I'm from Astoria, Queens in the currently very warm city of
New York (about 22*C right now). Astoria is a great place
to live - it's currently called Greek Town or Little Athens,
but there is a steady influx if Middle Easterners now,
making the restaurants here even better. If you are ever in
New York, forget Manhattan and take the #7 train (the
"Orient Express") to Queensboro Station and transfer to the
N/R train to Ditmars Blv, and you'll won't regret it.
Melbourne, Australia
well, in this case, anyway
I'll add one post too, just to keep it going! I live in
Stockholm, Sweden and spring is on its way (though it's a
bit cold today).

AYE!! Let's keep it going...hope all the regulars have revealed their identity (well location anyway...)
Finally spring, in Montreal, Canada
Singapore now(clean, green, and relatively friendly, at
least compared with...), HONG KONG, next week, before
setting off for a month to Thailand and Indonesia, then for
2 months to Brazil and Venezuela. All very exciting, but
there's a price to be paid, which is starting work full time
in September to pay the Bank back. So I'm going to enjoy the
next 4 months while I can, before loking forward to my next
trip (probably not until 2005!!!).
PS. Love reading the Thorn tree, and I imagine it will keep
me sane when I'm back to work in sunny old London!!

Hard to believe that I am the first german (and also living
in germany) after 165 posts!
The TT seems to be the only "german-free zone" in the world,
usually you will meet us all around the world, but maybe
thats the reason why I am the first: every other german
interested in travelling is doing it right now and I am the
onlyone at home, reading the TT. Well, 8 more month and I am
out of here too (South America that is).
Tapu
Can't believe I missed this one. Talking to you from

I'm mostly an American but also legally a citizen of the U.K. and I live in beautiful Trondheim, Norway right now.

It's time for another tote up to see how the world is represented here. I, for one, would like to see an additional breakdown of cities in Australia and states in the US. Allow me to sound out a RAH, RAH, RAH for San Francisco, California. A truly splendid town.

I shouldn┤t do this because now Argentina will pass Brazil,
but I'm now in Buenos Aires, Argentina in a "business" trip.
Well sorry Jack but the original question was " which
country are you calling from ?" .:-)
Germany, in fact Bavaria, in fact Franken!
God help me....
I'm not even German.........
I'd rather be somewhere else........
It's depressing to see how FEW people live out here....
Think I'll apply for a cruiseliner job in West Indies
soon.......
Anyone else out there in Franken??????
but living in colchester, england right now ...not for long
anymore, thank god
Been here 6 months, after 2 years in KL, malaysia, and 3 years in Singapore. This is home number 28 or 29?
I'm a half chinese aussie from Brisbane married to a second generation greek aussie from Perth. Home is where the cat is.Thailand is great!
THE place (and i┤m NOT speaking of this alcohol-soaked
oktoberfest...)
--
Hey Cybercat #187, what┤s wrong with Franken? Good and cheap
food, best beers (guess about 400 small breweries),
beautiful landscape, gentle people though funny accent, best
looking women...
Where exactly are you?
Another Dane joining.....
Hawaii Calling,
Aloha to all - from the center of our universe - beautiful
Hawaii (Oahu) - seems this is the first post from Hawaii -
I'm not quite sure what that means - but - if anybody is
headed this way and needs help or input - contact me - this
is my State and my Island.
To Curious - awesome topic, great posts. Good on ya.
To Jamie (91) international chow down - great idea - why
not have it here in Hawaii? Hawaii's pretty much got it
all - everything from skiing to swimming in the same day.
100% Irish Gael and proud , no foreign blood in me, although
I was concieved in Italy. Does that count????
I┤m in Sweden
HI curious, do try to locate us in Ontario Can. if your
passing by. Always willing to lend a hot shower and soft
bed if you bring some facinating stories and picts.
Hey #190!
I never said Franken was THAT bad!
I agree with everything you say, except for the women bit!!!
And the Frankonians are not exactly renound to being gentle
folk now are they?
Ain't never been to the Oktoberfest yet...We have THE
Bergkirchweih here....so where am I?
Hi CyberCat, bad luck for you (as for pretty women in F.).
Guess they┤re just not your type. ;-)))
Yes i heard that Frankonians are said to be gentle (no
generalization though!), at least i can say that for my F.
friends...
Bergkirchweih? No idea. Tell me. Could be Upper ("Berg-")
Frankonia. Every tiny village has its own Kirchweih once a
year. This is one of the points that make up the region┤s
charme.
Number 200 ? Am I number 200 ?
Okay,okay, Ro.
I'd like that bit with the women if I was a man!
But apart from the Oktoberfest there is one other BIG
Bergkirchweih in Bavaria - place starts with an E. Surely
you must have heard of it - it's every May and sounds like
I'll miss it this year 'cos I'm off to Venezuela, probably.
Another nice one is the Annafest in Forcheim - try it.
That's towards the end of August, nice warm up to the
Oktoberfest eh?
Toronto, Canada
Thats the name of the town in which I live, like #109

as I am WELSH, score one for WALES. Well curious I nearly
went to live in Albany which as you Know is in the
better part of Australia, it was either there or Vancouver
BC or Holland. In case you think this is a leg pull, the
world and olympic champion speed skater over 5000 & 10000M
lives here as well, it's a naturally cool town.

Katrin,
Seems we may see each other at the Bergkirchweih then!
Your "place-of-work" doesn't start with an S
(the-one-and-only) by any chance?
CyberCat ... and what about your plans for Venezuela? Is the
Bergkirchweih soooo good that you canceled your journey...
;-)
CvberCat, fortunately the place of work doesn't start and
end with an S! Still 28 days till the Berch starts... ro

This is my very first posting... it's fun... do it again.
I can really recommend this beer festival.
I've just booked my flights to Venezuela taking care to
return in time for the festival.
Ro, have you been to Venezuela?
You mean this city where young couples go to on honeymoon
and where they have boats in the streets and you┤re getting
all wet when crossing the street...? ;-)
No, seriously, never been to South America, tried it once,
ended up working in the US Virgin Islands.
Where shall we meet in E. at the festival? What do you
think, should we take Katrin with us?
Please, despite the fact that the Bergkirchweih is a great
beer festival and you want to meet CyberCat and eventually
me there I suggest you leave your e-mail adress for further
chatting with CyberCat! This is such a great thread and it
is for sure not interesting for all others here where and
when to meet at the Bergkirchweih.( BTW, I have the
impression that I would disturb your date...?).
CyberCat, have a nice trip to Venezuela!!

Wellington, New Zealand/Aotearoa... a true kiwi... but I'd
rather be in no particular country at all... sailing the
beautiful pacific ocean...
It's good that someone is taking over for Barnaby (think he
is now traveling) et al. I would never have the stamina to
go through this entire thread like that. Or perhaps cutting
and pasting helps, eh?
Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
I'm a frog having spent the last 3 years in Holland and
Africa. I also lived a year in Vienna 5 years ago. I'm
writing from Utrecht - Holland now.
I live in Manhattan. I am a freelance director for a
graphic design agency. I like to pretend i'm planning trips
to take myself away way from the humdrum of everyday work.
Im only 24 and feel like im already locked into a path. any
advice on how to drop everything and travel for a few months
and still pick up where you left off. this point seems to
be avoided in most travel memoirs.
Minnesota, one of those suburban American nightmares, where
the only landmarks are strip malls and the houses are either
huge and tacky or small and ugly. Yuk.
Paris, FRANCE... A place of green valleys, nice little
villages, small river, one or two cars, a strange tower and
millions of cows all around. Need to take a break?...Go to
Syria.
I cant believe it, I read the entire thread. Just got into
work here in Bristol, England which is a great city in its
own right, but the traffic is a mess. Where am I from?
Ahhhhhhh...I can see the beautiful pine covered coastal and
Cascade mountain ranges melting into the horizon, I can see
lakes untouched since the the first human set foot in
America. I see the arid eastern plains in there own glory
undulating off into the distance. I see wonderful cities
and towns inbetween...progressive Portland, funky Eugene and
right in the upper left hand corner of this vision is my
home....ASTORIA, OREGON!! Ugggghh, now Im homesick. Cant
wait to go back.
If you would like to know more of the Philippines, e mail me.
I am an Internet/New media marketing guru-type, living in New York.
More specifically, I live in Hoboken, which is on the Wetern bank of the Hudson river a stone's throw from the Empire State Building.
Hoboken is the birthplace of Frank Sinatra, Baseball, Michael Chang, G. Gordon Liddy, Jonathan Sayles and others.
I travel as often as I can, love reggae music, history, historic architecture, skiing, riding my waverunner and meeting as many - and as diverse a group of people - as my time on Earth will allow me.
Cheers,
u-T
My physical location anyway....rather be travelling.
Somewhere in the depths of Birmingham, England (where it is
summer and pissing down).
The country where the retired tennisplayers helps to keep
the colombian economy running and where the rain is pissing
down!!
in my little office in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Two hours
and 14 minutes so far today racked up reading the Choice
branch. I just sent off my passport to the Indian consulate
today for a visa!

Was born in the Bay Area in California. But now call the
beautiful, peaceful State of Wisconsin my permanent home.
I've lived in Ontario for a year, Texas for 9 months and
spent a 1 1/2 month orientation in Nottingham, England.
I've found good in every place I've visited or lived but
eventually settled with the best. :)

I thought I'd turn the gross numbers of posters per
place around and factor in the population. The following
are some "rates" of TT posters by country (or state, prov.)
per million of population. Not every place is calculated
(sorry, I have to do something billable at work today). An
asterisk indicates a place where there has been more than
one poster/million. Note that the highest rate is not in an
English-speaking country.

No other East Coast Canadians I've noticed. Although other
Canadians have spoken up, we easterners are like a differ
country. Unlike the big bad city boys, we depend on fishing,
faming, and mining, as well as the regular 'city
professions'. It's a homey, quiet, family oriented community
area. Wouldn't give it up for anything. Au revoir, mes
amis!

What a post! I'd like to wave to post 291...I can't believe

the good work!
What about Chile ? I posted from Santiago two weeks ago .

This is going to mess things up - I was the one person from Qatar but now I have moved so now I am the only one from Azerbaijan instead.
must confess i have only this day disovered this thread, and haven't read every single posting. if the question is Where are you now or where were you born? the answer is always simple. but some bastard asked me today where home was, and i could not say. born in scotland of scottish father (perhaps with some viking in him, way back) and an english mother (whose own mother was french). ok so far: i"m british (and happy to be thought of as european: love those little red passports). but home? haven't lived in scotland since 1975, but have lived in (defined as having worked in, or signed an accomodation lease in): india (twice), sri lanka, iran, thailand, hong kong (five times), australia (twice) and even, relatively recently, a nasty city called london. we ignore here the 45 other countries i have passed through, several of them often, and would dearly love to visit again (hello to the faroe islands, for example). none of this because i'm some hotshot oil engineer or international executive always being sent to strange outposts at company expense. all a consequence of my sad inability to grow up, get married, commit myself to a lifetime of mortgage debt, breed and stop in my tracks. in sydney these past three years, and happy enough, but is this home? anyone with anything to say on where home is?
I'm in La Paz, Bolivia - the most tedious city in the world.
Born and raised in San Francisco, to be exact, and still
here.

You know, this is so damn sweet. I think we should all get together and have a party. I'll supply the vodka, someone else bring the jelly.

Florida.I just got back from Mexico and am leaving next
weekend for New York City.I will be spending Christmas and
New Year's in England, but it's always nice to come home.
I want to say hello to Sophie (#222) - I'm sitting in Surrey, England (just south of London), but if I'd found this site a few weeks back, I would've been in Amman, Jordan (just got back here after a year living there).
(cool stats, Judith, but, sorry, by no stretch of anyone's imagination is Israel in Europe. South-West Asia if you like, but how about a separate category for the Middle East?)

I know, geographically Israel isn't part of europe but they're considered part of it, they're always taking part in european sports events so I counted them in. But you're right, it might be better to start a ME section.

I'm Malaysian selling my soul in Hong Kong. Life here is a
pressure cooker 5 days a week. Weekends are spent heading
off to the islands or the well marked treks of the
'country parks'. Vacation for most people here means
signing up on a tour package with 5-star hotels and fully
planned itineraries ..... it is judged by how good the hotel
facilities and shopping are .... and backpacking? What's
that? Friends still think I'm crazy to travel with a
backpack and a return air ticket with no advance hotel
bookings or detailed travel plans.
I'm keen to do weekend trips to mainland China (by
train/bus/ferries) to explore the local cultures and sights.
Anyone in this corner of the world who's game, do e-mail
me.
Hey Sarah, you snuck up from behind and beat me to CALGARY,
ALBERTA, CANADA. I must have been sleeping.
Why don't y'all come to Calgary, home of the 1988 Winter
Olympics, Calgary Stampede and Exhibition (Greatest Outdoor
Show on Earth) and the friendliest folks you'll ever meet.
No really, it's true. (No bias here :-) )
Wish I was somewhere else too. :o(
From Brooklyn, New york City. Hello world!

a lot of German named people in Adelaide. Reminds ome of a
story that my grandad told me.
It was in the first world war when two German soldiers were
heard remarking, upon seeing a goat walk in front of them,
whilst on patrol.

Hans responded " I wish it was dark"
true story
Hi to all you world travellers!
*
Here's some of my travel stats:
- born in Edmonton, Canada - parents from Hong Kong and
China;
- now living in Ottawa;
- have visited most of Canada, NYC, USA's Pacific Coast,
most of western Europe, and Cuba;
- favourite places: London UK, NYC, Rome and Barcelona.
- dream trip: to go around the perimeter of the Mediterrean
Zog here, a denizen of Calgary, province of Alberta, Canada.
(Howdy, Neighbor Brent!) Here in "Cowtown" I drive a big
ugly black and yellow 18-wheeler and deliver overpriced
Restaurant Supplies to all the good little restaurants out
there. This helps pay for my REAL life, which I spend
studying Industrial Design in Pasadena, California (another
City of Roses, Bry! Still recovering from your little mixer,
by the way!) and travelling in my beloved Southeast Asia.
Girlfriend just bought this computer last week and I am
already hooked on TT!!

Great idea asking where everyone is from. Cheers! :0)
I thought I'd turn the Judith's gross numbers of posters per
place around and factor in the population. The following
are some "rates" of TT posters by country (and state, prov.)
per million of population. Not every place is calculated. An
asterisk indicates a place where there has been more than
one poster/million.

What about Brazil ?!
Hello there, I think this must be the first post from sunny
Colombia.
Hi, sorry about that but I thought if someone is possibly a
Spanish speaker it might make their day, anyway - first
time I've seen this thread and its pretty cool, especially
after coming from other parts of the TT where everybody is
bitchy and nasty in general. Like it, have a great
Christmas and a prosperous new Year and if you are ever in
Cali ever look me up for a cold beer.!!!! CHEERS
The jewish country, but not all jewish because 20% israelis
are arabs. So if you want to see 2 very interestin cultures
then israel is exciting. But i hope that theres peace and we
don't kill each other before you can visit us.
how you all can be so bored when you live in such facinating
countries. Try being in the ACT (that's the Australian
Capital Territory, which is where the CAPITAL of Australia -
CANBERRA - is, in case anybody thought Sydney was. (see
other branhes (twigs?) of the YC)). This place is so hip,
groovy and exciting I can't understand why the majority of
the population is paid a premium to reside here!
and it's damn cold! How do you like 70km/hour winds?!
amazed that all of you from so many facinating corners of
the earth can be so bored. Try being in the ACT! (That's the
Australian Capital Territory, where the Australian capital
CANBERRA is located. The captial is not Sydney (despite what
many of you seem to think - cf elsewhere on this tree).
Nothing happens here! The population is imported and they're
all public servants - what a fun, groovy, hip and happening
city thsi is!
that my stupid, crappy old computer failed to tell me that
my first post had registered. So now I look like a complete
twat. Sorry people, and especially to the statisticians, who
incidently are doing a marvellous job
Edmonton, Alberta Canada, where today on December the 18, we had a lovely temperature of -22 celcius. I felt cold today as I had to walk a long way when I missed my bus.
. . . . you guys deserve prizes ! This is becoming REALLY
interesting.
thanks. you put my mind at rest. :)
522 posts-- not bad i wonder what's the record?

ages ago!
Anyway, I'm in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, right on the

Los Angeles, California, though I grew up in Connecticut. And yes to the next question people inevitably ask, I work in the entertainment industry... for a movie studio. What a thrill... ho ho.
To the Ian in post #56... you're not the one I sat next to on the flight from Seoul to Singapore in October, are you?

It's rather cold out so I'm dreaming of hot sunny Banda where I was 10 long days ago.
Happy New Year, everybody, and Happy Birthday (coming up in 18 days) to this post.
--but in post #478 I apparently did not make it clear that
my home state in the USA is MARYLAND, since we've not made
it onto the Big Board here yet. Just asking for equal time
for the Free State, also known as the Old Line State--we
hold up the southern side of the Mason-Dixon Line.
BTW I work as a statistician and just want to commend y'all
for a bang up job here.
What the fuck is this?! This post has been here for a bloody

First time on this branch of TT . I'm from Saratoga on the Central Coast of New South Wales Australia.
After nearly 9 years away from the USA, I'm back. (Most of those years were spent in the Czech Republic.) For the time being, I'm in Easton, Pennsylvania. It's roughly an hour southwest from NYC and is the home of the new Crayola Crayon interactive factory, which apparently draws them by the thousands. hyuk, hyuk
I'm also new to the TT. The whole site is wonderful and this site in particular amazes me. Is there any other site out there like this one? Why do I have time for this? No job yet. No local friends yet. But the TT does look good enough to keep one coming back even with a busier life.

I am from Luxembourg (one of the last ones). As everybody
knows, Luxembourg is the economic and cultural center of
Europe, and thus has to be concidered as the center of the
world....
If one of you should disagree, we gladly invade your
country with our 100 soldiers and our 3 tanks. We warned
you!
I'm from Shelley in Perth.
By the river, where the dolphins play.
...but I'd rather be in Lisbon.
I just couldn't resist posting at 7-11 (also my first time
on this list). I am from Toronto, the centre of the
Universe (not to be confused with Luxembourg in post #708,
which is only at the centre of the world).
I live in one of the rainier cities of North America.
Vancouver is cool, moist and borderline depressing. Thank
the little fishes for cable access to the comedy network,
PBS and foreign films--or I would have to go outside and
make friends with equally morose individuals like myself.
I come from the Land of the Best food in Asia! (But nothing
much to see or do though). Still a proud citizen of the
Republic of SINGAPORE!
I am up in the mountains of Idaho, in Sun Valley. Couldn't
think of a prettier place to be!!!!
... well, me be from Bath, England. Apologies for the bad
grammar but apparently I'm in love and have writer's block.
last stats bring us french frogs to a total of 6, so that's

france in a small town.
An exchange student from Emsdetten, Germany in Grove Hill,
Alabama.
The Washington count is wrong. I know of at least two others (besides me) who are from Washington. Unfortunately, I can remember only one of their names: Ingo.
..not the sea kind (ie. salmon), the 'air' kind (warm
winds).
I'm posting from Calgary, AB; lived here more than half of
my lifetime now. Born in Borneo, just came back from
visiting Melbourne - great city, good weather, plentiful
wine, loved your Metro. Glen Waverley, a neat little
suburb. Loved Australia, although a bit expensive. Brought
back the famous Cherry Ripe bars and Musk flavoured
Lifesavers for Dawit, as recommended by the missing
SouthernBelle.

You sure were up late (or early)!!
...at least that what Armistad Maupin (spelled wrong?) said
about the beautiful city of San Francisco, CA. Actually,
I'm just outside SF in th suburbs right now, trying to find
a place in the City where I can keep my 2 dogs. Not easy
to do. This is the best city in the world, which is why
everyone keeps moving here!
I'm here in NYC visiting the love of my life. I normally hail from the wonderful city of Glasgow to which I will be unfortunately returning very soon. It's not that I don't love being at home, it's just that being away from the woman that I love just isn't nice. :-(

Do you see any post here by Ingo stating he's from
washington? Sorry, but I only count the ones that list here.

I am a university student from Vancouver, Canada --I'm

should be adjusted accordingly.
I've seen this post but never bothered to check it out.
Seeing that it appears to be a permanent fixture in the

Eviction Notice Added by: la Jefita
I, the president-elect of an as-yet undetermined
nation,
hereby do declare on this, the 29th of April, sometime
in
the early afternoon on the other side of the world,
that we
are officially in a state of "Kicking-Your-Butts" by a
margin of 3 posts.
In order to rectify this situation, you must contact
our
Master/Mistress (whatever it is these days, Bob knows I
have
no control over these things anymore) of the Mint as
soon as
possible to arrange to borrow millions of dollars in
worthless promissory notes which must then in turn be
used
to contract Think-Tanks composed of our nationals who
will
devise ever-more-colorful and digitalized means of
screwing
up your thread content even more thoroughly so that you
might accrue debt to us for these notes in the form of
monthly interest for the next 127 years or until we
bomb
you.
Thank you for your prompt compliance. Failure to comply
amounts to will to revolt and will alert our active
corps to
commence defensive tactics immediately. Don't want that
now,
do we?
Have a nice day, then.

Question: Has there been anybody from Canada, north of the
Arctic Circle?
Sunny, but boring Rungsted, Denmark...
Apparently not (yet). According to the latest stats there are no posters from the territories (only provinces, and no province extends that far north).
