I will be going to Havana in two weeks. My sister will be
sailing there but she doesn't know when she will arrive. I
wonder if anyone has a suggestion of a good spot to meet,
such as a cafΘ or a park or some other place where it would
be OK to spend about an hour every day.
Another question; isn't there any internet cafΘs in Cuba? I
have been searching the web, but I haven't found a single
one.

hola sandra...como esta usted? the inglaterra hotel outdoor
cafe across from parque central in habana vieja sounds like
it would work for you and your sister.however,it is quite
    a distance from the marina,probably 30-45min away,longer by
public bus.no internet cafes in cuba..at least not when i
was there in december..i don't think it would be possible
with the present regime, considering the wealth of info on
the net re:the freedoms enjoyed in other parts of the world.
have a wonderful time! it's a beautiful island, but the best
part about cuba is the cubanos!!! ciao,e

  2. El Capitolio has internet Added by: Hugo
[Timestamp: Tue 11 May, 23:03 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Sandra, some good information has been posted by Diago,
Wayfarer, and some others about Cuba travel. Diago provided
information about internet access available for $5 per hour
at the Capitolio in Habana vieja.
    -
You can't miss the Capitolio. It is the most prominent
structure in old Havana. As you face the building from the
street, walk around the left side and enter the ground
floor. You will find the computer area easily.
    -
I used the service in March when I was there for three weeks
and found the computers to be extremely slow. You might want
to take a good book to read or a Spanish dictionary to
study, or some other means to pass the time while waiting to
    receive information.
    -
The lobby of the Havana Libre Hotel at calle 23 and avenue L
has a comfortable sitting area where you would be welcome to
sit and read, socialize, or otherwise kill time.
    -
Good luck, and have a great trip.

  3. Where to wait Added by: Diago
[Timestamp: Wed 12 May, 7:15 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Sandra, Hugo is right about the internet thing. As a side
note, you might want to get there early. Hugo hit the nail
on the head, waiting for a page to load at El Capitolio is
    like watching paint dry!
    -
As for waiting for your sister, you should check where her
boat is coming in. Traditionally, private ships have come
into Marina Hemingway in Miramar. However, since the fall
of 1998, commercial ships have been docking at El Puerto de
Cruceros (the port for cruise ships), behind Old Habana -
right across the street from the Benetton store. The only
reason I know this is because my girlfriend is a customs
officer and she works there on occasion. In all likelihood,
the ship will arrive there - unless it's a private yacht, as
I suggested earlier. If that's the case, you can go to El
Patio, right next to La Catedral. Or you could go to La
Bodeguita del Medio. I think you'll prefer El Patio - it's
outside and they have plenty of music, drinks and food. You
can also wander through la feria (the craft fair), right
next to La Catedral - near El Malecon. You should actually
have a good ol' time! El Capitolio is near Old Habana - go
there first. Use the internet and then venture through Old
Habana and make your way over to the port. If you ask
someone in the newest terminal (it's the one furtherest to
the left and looks brand new), they should be able to give
you an idea as to when you sister is arriving. Then just
head over to la feria and El Patio and hang out. Hope this
    helps! Have fun!
    -
By the by, Hotel Nacional is also very nice to hang out in.
They have a beautiful patio in the rear and you can also
send e-mails from the hotel. Bear in mind, it's not
"internet access," as such, but you can send e-mails - just
    not receive them.

    Dear Sandra,
hi! I'm a German 23 years old girl and I would like to
travel with another girl to Cuba next year. So I would ask
you to tell me what kind of experiences you have made, when
you are back from your trip to Cuba. I'm interested in what
you think about the danger for two girls to travel around
Cuba, nice places to stay and other tips. Thanks a lot, I'm
looking forward to hearing from you soon, have a great trip,
    bye, Uli
