Latest on Cuba

Help! I'm getting conflicting info. on travelling to Cuba.
Questions: What's the easiest/cheapest place to fly to
Havana from in the Carribean? Nassau? Puerto Domingo? Got
an e-mail address for the travel agent selling the tickets?
How hard / expensive is it to travel around in Cuba via bus
or train? Are cheap ($5 to $20) accomodations easily
available in November? What can I expect to drop a day?
Any insights on where to go, what to avoid, cool stuff you
did, SCUBA, or anything else? Thanks!
By the way, the latest Lonely Planet on Cuba wasn't in the
bookstore yet, so I bought the Carribean Handbook instead.
I've been using Lonely Planets for over ten years, and I
guess I'm just use to them, because I didn't like the
Handbook at all. It wasn't really helpful in answering "the
basics".

hola mike...como esta usted? did you get the "cuba handbook"
by christopher baker? for me,that is the definitive guide
on cuba and i have them all...sorry,lonely planet...
however,it was a bit cumbersome to travel with.
    surprisingly,the fodor's guide is not bad,as well.it covers
the basics fairly well.check out the website www.1000travel
tips.org/ for info on cheap accomodations all over the
island.i would reccom the hotel at 212 prado in habana vieja
or there are a few casa particulars listed,as well.in
    trinidad,definitely stay at carmen luisa's
place.cheap, clean and the best food in town, plus lovely
people!!! feel free to email,if you wish,re air from the
states to diff countries to habana...travel is not only my
    passion,but also my professions.ciao,e

    Hi -- I agree with e about Baker's book. I spent about
    $50/day -- 15 for a room in casa particular, $15 f0r food,
and then I averaged out my transportation costs -- I
traveled with my husband, so we split a lot of things too.
It's not as cheap as south america. you can get by on less
if you work at it -- going to Cuban restaurants that accept
cuban pesos, finding markets to buy your own food,
hitchiking with the locals on the trucks, etc.
