Does anyone know any good books for someone, in Cuba,
wanting to learn english? I've been told that what I want
is 'Latin for English'. Does anyone have any suggestions?
titles? authors?
.. thanks

    Hi...
Do you have Duthie books back east? If not, try one of the
larger bookstores as they can special order that type of
    book.
Good luck and let me know if you find something!

You might want to check out WWW.BERLITZ.COM. Berlitz is
known as one of 'the best' language instruction companies
around. They have books for spanish-speakers, looking to
learn english. You can even order the books, tapes, etc.
    on-line. Good luck!

Incidentally, how's your spanish nowadays? (smile)

Oh yeah, they even have courses, which might be helpful once
    your husband arrives.

  4. you're too much Added by: Kia

Diago: you're just too much. You're one of the nicest,
most helpful, and interesting people I've "met".
How are things coming along for you? I'm in the midst of
going through the name-change, but people are getting
confused about what my last name will be (& so am I at this
point). Do I carry both his names (father's & mother's), or
just his father's? My understanding was just his father's,
but at the Licence Bureau they're telling me I'll need to
take both because that's what shows on our marriage
certificate (works out to be a long name since I'm planing
to also keep my maiden name and hypenate).
Anyhow .... keep in touch and thanks for the helpful advice.

  5. Names?? Added by: Helen (eleni_ny@yahoo.com)

OK, now I'm confused.... what do you mean about
mothers and fathers names? You mean to tell me that the
middle name in my boyfriends name is not really his 'middle
name' but his mothers maiden name?? Somebody pls. explain.

The way it was explained to me is: First Name, Father's
    Name, Mother's Name.
When I look at my husband's name, on our marriage
certificate, it reads his first name, his father's second
name & his mother's last name.
Maybe I'm wrong, and someone else can clarify this.

  7. Names... Added by: golden_sunshine

    Hi Kia..Hi Helen...
It is the father's name that gets carried on, not the
    mothers. For example:
Mother's name is Maria Gonzalez Gomez and Father's name is
Miguel Ramirez Leon. In the case of the mother,
Maria..Gonzalez was her father's name and Gomez was her
mother's. In the case of the Father, Ramirez is his
father's name and Leon is his mother's name. Maria and
Miguel have a child and call the child Jose. Jose's name
will become Jose Ramirez Gonzalez. Now, Jose gets married
to Carmen Sanchez Martinez. Their child is named
Catarina. Catarina's name becomes Catarina Ramirez
    Sanchez.
Usually when introducing to new people, the last name
(mom's), gets dropped. So in the case of Catarina,
Catarina would go by Catarina Ramirez.
    Make sense? Hope that helps!
