I spent January travelling through Cuba and have some
information about conditions, casas, dance, transport etc
that other travellers might find useful. I would be happy
to pass it on if you email me.

Hi, we plan to go to cuba on a sort of adventurous
honeymoonish kind of trip, what we need is information on
how to get around, where to sleep and eat. Actually any
kind of information on Cuba will do. Much obliged Hans &

I recently came across a very insightful book from the Moon
Travel Guide series. Go to the Moon website at www.moon.com
and look up the title by Christopher P. Baker entitled CUBA.
If you can get your hands on this book it should answer
most of your questions. It is relatively recent, being
published in 1997. I hope this will help.

Cuba info? Added by: Jochen (jochen.vandeperre@cronos.be)

    Hi Hans,
If you are not a backpacker, and you are planning to have a
"normal vacation" to a "normal hotel", then maybe I can
help you. We also spent our honeymoon on Cuba, and we're
also from Belgium. We went to St. Lucia, a small place with
only 5 hotels. If you like it calm and quiet, you could go
there. Otherwise, you may want to go to Varadero. Anyway,
have a look at our travel report on Cuba:
    pages.hotbot.com/travel/jochen.vandeperre/index.html
...and take the "Our Travels" link.
    Questions: mail me.
    Ciao,
    J.

I went to Cuba last year and would definately recommend
it. I can't be much help as regards where to stay, as I
did it the boring way (i.e. pre-booked hotels in Havana and
Guardalavaca) but one thing I would say is that in my
opinion try to steer clear of Havana itself. The East of
the Island is much nicer and quieter (if thats what you're
after!). Havana is okay for a visit, but even after one
day I found I had enough! Having said that though, the
island itself is by far the best trip I have ever had, and
the locals second to none in friendliness and eagerness to
    help

  4. Cuba is a lot of Fun! Added by: Dave

I just got back from Cuba a month ago. My best advice is
bring only US dollars, everyone wants them only. Rent a 4x4
or car by the week only (much cheaper) Drive everywhere, no
need to pre-book hotels. There are quite a few available on
the island, All the luxury one are in Veradero, by the way
a 5 star in Cuba is 3 star in Canada or the US. The food is
very reasonable in price, gas is one dollar US a litre. 50
cents on the blackmarket. There are few luxuries in Cuba,
that for sure, bring toilet paper, most places even charge
you 1 US dollar to us the toilet. The people are the best
part of this country, they are friendly and ver
