Hello all
We plan to go to Varadero and have looked at the Superclub
Puntaren in early June. We would be very grateful if
anyone has stayed at this hotel, or has any general
comments on the area (building work, oil wells etc...) We
definitely intend to go to Varadero so maybe we will see
some of you out there!

    Hi ukcouple-22,
I haven't stayed at the Punterena, but have been to
    Varadero before (3 times).
I've stayed at Suberclubs Club Varadero & I've booked to
stay at Las Brisas del Caribe in June.
    *
You already seem to know about the Oil Refinery...as far as
I know the main problem is the smell (depending on the wind)
Also, the Punterena is a bit "away from everything".
Most of the hotels are located on the other side of
Varadero Town so there's a lot more happening over there.
    *
Anyway guys, I've seen almost all of the hotels which are
on offer in the UK brochures so if you need any advice feel
free to e-mail me. I'm sure there are lots of things I
could tell you, but I'll be writing forever!

  3. Veradero new resort Added by: Dave

There is a new resort in Veradero called BEACHES. It just
opened in March of 99. I have stayed there myself in March
and it was great. Super modern, each room has a safe, there
is three places to dine, the food is great, volleyball
court, super huge pool. Great beach, and lots of fun, disco
dancing, nightly shows. For disco I suggest you check out
the La Rumba it is the place to go in Veradero, but do not
show up until after 12 midnight, that's when the action
starts. NO need to worry about security there are police
everywhere in Veradero, on just about every street corner.
THe HOtels have one at ecah entrance on the roadway. ( to
keep the cubans out of course). Anyway the island is
paradise to discover, the people very friendly and when you
give a tip to cuban staff members at the hotel a dollar is a
lot of monet, because they only get paid 10.00 a month, yes
10.00 only. So, a dollar is a lot of money to them. Tax cab
to Veradero from the hotel is 10.00 or 5.00 if you hagel
abit. Car rentals are expensive, $180.00 us f

Excellent hotel - I've stayed there twice & would not
hesitate in recommending it to anybody.
    -
All food & international drinks are included. The food is
superb. Huge choice, excellent quality & presentation.
There are chefs on hand to cook your own omlettes at
breakfast. Same for lunch, choose from fish, chicken,
burgers etc at the bar-b-que grill or eat in the main
    buffet restaurant.
    Separate a-la-carte (lobster) restaurant.
The bars are open from 10am to 4am serving all
    international drinks and cocktails.
    -
Scuba diving & water-skiing are also included. Unless you
have a certificate you must take a test in the swimming
pool in order to be allowed to dive.
    -
Well equiped gym & aerobics studio. Some pieces equipment
were starting to look slightly worn, but were still in good
working order. Step or aerobics classes every afternoon
except Sundays. Aquacise & beach aerobics every day except
    Sundays.
    -
    Huge daily entertainments programme:
    Pool volleyball, pool basketball, waterpolo...
    Beach volleyball, beach football...
    -
    Weekly toga party (great fun)
Fortnightly beach party - not to be missed
The hotel hads it's own disco. This can be a little quiet
(people, not volume), but the bar stays open until 4am.
There's also a piano/kareoke bar which is really popular.
    -
There's a well equiped games room (computer games, board
games, pool, table tennis) for those rainy days.
Well maintained tennis & basketball courts with a couple of
tennis pro's to help you brush up your game.
    Bicycle hire is free.
    -
I loved it there. They don't cut corners with anything.
The attention to detail is amazing.
    -
If you want to know anything else just e-mail me.
    Cheers.
