I am going to St John for a month and am looking for some
advice about where to go and how expensive stuff is. Any
advice or experiences would be of great help.

Check out Maho Bay in St. John. It is an ecologically
sensitive "campsite" where you stay in permanent tents on
wooden platforms which have two beds, a small living room,
kitchen and porch on a hillside directly on the beach. They
also have a very good restaurant. It costs I believe about
75 a night. They have a website at www.maho.org. They also
have a small grocery store or you can buy grocieries in town
at Cruz Bay. However, all food is expensive in St. John.
We always bring groceries from the mainland to cook while we
are there. Really a very nice experience. There are other
places similar to Maho. Good luck!

Maho is really great, also Cinnamon Bay campground is
beautiful and convenient to town and all the lovely North
shore beaches. However if you are going to be there a full
month, I would get a place for a few days and start talking
to locals about other options. They are going into off
season (except Carnival July 4th week) and there may be some
deals out there. Also dont rule out staying in Coral bay
(good bus service into town) or on a boat. Have a great time
    ! Martina

You might be able to get a summer job at Maho Bay, if you
are interested. I stayed there a few years back and still
receive a newsletter in which they offer jobs. If I remember
right you get free board and discounted meals for 20 hours
    work per week.Good Luck.

i live on st. john. maho is a great deal if you can
get the work live exchange. food is the most
expensive thing here. everyting else is free-beach,
hikes ect. bare camping at cinamon is cheapest, you
bring your own tent they have an 800 number. you will
want to venture to other islands, make sure you bring
    your passpaort.
