Going to Cuba from the USA

I'd like to hear from fellow Americans on how to fly into
Cuba from Mexico.
My friends and I are planning a trip to Cuba in August. How
do we avoid our country's short-sighted travel restrictions?
We'd prefer not have to sign up with an "educational
tour"...

Just buy your ticket at the airport, pay the $20 Cuban visa
and that's it. They will not stamp your passport at the
airport in Havana. Thousands of Americans go there each
weel and by now it is quite routine. On my flight from
Jamaica, there were at least 25 Americans. It's not a
problem, really. Just have the name of your hotel for your
    Arrival Card.

this time of year (end of the winter holidays) there are good deals to cuba leaving toronto or other canadian cities. lots of nonstop charters every week. in august, there are still some flights, which might work out easier/cheaper than via mexico if you're in the northeast. try belair travel or canada3000 airlines (don't remember exact site addresses but should be easy with any search engine).

Go to Cancun, Mex. and at the Cancun airport there is a desk
for CUBANA Airlines. You can purchase a ticket there.
Hundreds of people form Miami, Fl go each week. I did it
    once myself.

Is it possible to fly to Cuba from other Central American
countries besides Mexico? ie Guatemala, Costa Rica, etc.
Also is it possible to boat it over to Cuba?

Casey, it is quite easy Casey to go from Costa Rica to
Havana. You will need to make reservations and learn which
days the trips are made. You could possible do that by going
to the web site for the English language newspaper, The Tico
Times, for Costa Rica. It is a weekly and has a site on the
    WWW.
One can usually get a flight and a two day package trip for
around $250 from San Jose. You could possibly get the
package and have a delayed return if you decide to spend
    more time in Cuba.
If you need more info, just post your request. I assume your
    email address is current.

beyond from Georgetown, Grand Cayman. Been twice, myself.
Santiago is a MUST if you can swing it.

If you fly from mexico it pays to look around in magazines
and newspapers for travel agents selling consolidated
tickets. I flew from Mexico city to Habana RT on Cubana
for $230, the Cubana office in Mex City tried to charge me
$430 for the same ticket. A great guy in Mex City named
Roberto Mongana who runs a little agency called Siboney
Tours sold me the ticket. He even made me a fake hotel
voucher for the customs guys at the airport! If anyone is
interested, I have his phone # somewhere..

Mongana. I have had no luck with the telephone directory in
Mexico City. If you do have his phone # It would be greatly
appreciated. I do not know if you would want to post this
number here. Please feel free to E-mail me. I am traveling
to Cuba in the months of August/September so I am in no
great hurry for the information. I believe I am adressing
    this to Sal. Thanks!
