Place to go?

Hello, everybody,
my wife and me are looking for a Caribbean destination
for the next winter season (we will go from Canada).
Obviously, weÆre looking for good beaches, but we would like
to do some trekking over there as well. We are not diehard
backpackers, so weÆd prefer to go to a place where
(relatively) low prices meet a decent tourist service (I
mean clean rooms with private facilities and restaurants
where they have clean plates and cold imported beer) Can
anyone recommend a particular place, country or an island?
What about going to Central American Caribbean coast -
places like Belize, Costa Rica or something?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
P.S. Please contact if you need an info on Russia (esp.
Moscow and St. Pete) or Kyrgyzstan.

  3. Try the BVI!! Added by: Serena

Hi there, My recommend would definitely be the British
Virgin Islands. The BVI is a number of islands-the most
populous is TORTOLA. The nicest beaches and nicest people
I've come across after touring many Carib islands.

  4. Tobago is the Place! Added by: Deb C. (deborahchalloner@hotmail.com)

    Hi folks,
Just returned from my 4th trip to Tobago. I have travelled
extensively throughout the Caribbean and lived in Barbados
for a time. I discovered Tobago in 1996 and keep going
back. I am Canadian also and the nicest thing for me is
travelling with Cdn $'s. The exchange rate is 4TT:1$ (6:1
US). Tobago is a very unspoiled island but backed by it's
cosmopolitan sister, Trinidad. The beaches are phenomenal,
the people the friendliest. There are loads of guest
houses. If you're interested I will give you a # of the
new house I stayed in this trip for $30US/night incl.
kitchen (pool in 6 mos.). There is plenty of rainforest,
unbelievable snorkelling/diving and good clean tap water.
The food is very reasonable and very delicious. Please
email me if you would like more info. Regards, Deb.

  5. cuba and camping Added by: david ward (ward@westminster.ac.uk)

could anyone give me a rundown on the practicality of
camping around cuba, especially the central west and south
west regions. are there campsites springing up in places and
will small hotels allow people to pitch tents?I am also
interested in whether the volunteer work schemes are still
around and if anyone has a contact address etc. Any details
    would be appreciated.

  6. Considered Costa Rica? Added by: Bob Alderson (Bobfly2@aol.com)
[Timestamp: Sun 23 May, 4:57 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I Spent a month is Costa Rica about 4 years ago. Travelled
around the country staying in inexpensive places. I spent
about $6-10 U.S. a night for a room. Bus travel is some of
the best I have seen around the world. Clean and
affordable. West coast recommendations include Quepos near
Manual Antonio Park. On the East Coast I stayed in Caquita
for a week or so. Very pretty beaches. There were some
problems on the beach back then with violent crime but only
isolated incidents like you'd find here. San Jose was
interesting and cooler than the coasts. I really enjoyed my
stay in Fortuna in the NW of the country. Saw the volcano
and laid in a creek just out of town that was perfect hot
tub temperature! Feel free to email me for more info
    Bob

  7. Anyone visted Cuba? Added by: ian (iwill_99)
[Timestamp: Mon 24 May, 5:47 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I jave read a lot about Cuba and all books state that the
main currency is american dollars, but a friend of ours
took trip from the US to Cuba and was left stranded as they
would not take hee dollars. I am going diving in Cayo Largo
next month (June 99) and would like someone to clarify the
best currency to take and any problems that people
encountered in this area of Cuba.
    Thanks in advance
