Hi
We were thinking of travelling from San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas - or maybe Palenque - through Guatemala and Belize, ending up in Quintana Roo/Yucatan. Has anyone got an idea how to get there - and does there exist any public transportation there at all? Does anyone have any safety tips on travelling through these countries? Thanks in advance.

Bus travel is pretty good quality throughout but go for
first class unless you want adventure and to share your
seat with two or three others along with their chickens.
First class is also inexpensive. Also don't travel at
night on your own. Always choose a largish town to spend
the night so you don't get stuck with no accommodations.
And don't eat the street food unless you take a great big
roll of toilet paper with you.
There are several way to go from San Cristobal de las Casas,
There is a bus station, with first class buses direct to
the border leaving 2 times daily , you can catch a bus
there to the Guatemalan border, or you can take a little
minivan , located beside the bus station to the border as
well if there are enough people. I've used both, the bus is
a little more comfortable but the vans faster. Once you
cross , there are buses on the Guatemalan side to
Huehuetenango where you can get a bus to most places.
I have just done this loop twice in the last four months..
different routes each time and I live in the Yucatan...if
you have any specific qs please e me I would be glad to help

Hello, fellow travelers. A friend and I are traveling in late June to Belize, through Guatemala and into Chiapas. I was wondering if anyone could give us any recent updates on safety, how to deal with the federales and places to steer clear of. We will be crossing through the Peten region of Guatemala on through to Bonampark and Palenque in Chiapas. We are both concerned about the civil unrest in these areas and would appreciate any feedback you seasoned travelers could offer. Thanks!
