Hi,
July this summer we flu to guatamala city. What to do from there. We arrive at 6 o'clock in the evening. We did not make any reservations yet to sleep somewhere. Does anyone know where we can spent the night in a not to expensive motel or pension. We would like a decent pension near by a bus or a busstation so that we can move on the next day. (we want to travel to the east, belize). Are there taxi's who can bring us to this motel. How expensive are the taxi's in Guatamala.
I think july is the rain season in Gutamala. What does this mean. Does it rain every day? is it cold when it rains?
Is there anybody who can help me with these questions!

I would take a shuttle from the airport to antigua. you
should not have too much trouble finding a shuttle. cost
is around $7-10 depending on what you can negotiate. the
hostals are fairly cheap in antigua ($5/night). we flew
from guat city to flores. we waited until the last minute
and it cost $65/one way. I would recommend going to a
travel agent in antigua and you should get a better deal.
The weather is not bad. rainy season means periods of
showers, but not all day rain. it can gt chilly in the
highlands, but not too cold. Bring bug spray for the
tropics. In guat city, we wanted to stay at hostal dos
lunes near the airport but it was full--they will pick you
up at the airport, have hot showers, breakfast $10/night.
instead we stayed at hotel hincape which was a dump. don't
    stay there.

    reviews of it on here.
Nancy, who posts frequently on here, has some good deals to
Tikal. Email me if you need her web site..I have it on my
    other computer.

Dos Lunas is very clean and safe and the owner Lorena is very helpful. contact her at lorena@pronet.net.gt or dos_lunas@hotmail.com
And I am agree with Bob, hotel Hincapie is a dump. Don┤t stay there...also they have this add at ther review english magazine offering rooms at US$10.00 a night but is not true...so be careful.

Hey, don't panic. Guatemala city is a very dirty and a bit
fear provoking city. I was there about a month ago. I
spent three weeks in guatemala as a lone woman. Nothing bad
happened to me and I did not take any planes or shuttle
service. I would not recomend the Lonely planet- central
america because it has alot of outdated info. Interms of
hostels, though, just find some guidbook. In Guatemala city
I stayed at pension meza at 10a calle 10-17. It felt
friendly and safe, but many cocrouches. A dormitorio was
cheep, a little more than 2 USD and the guys running the
place had the current bus schedules for all destinations.
In Guatemala city taxis are plentiful and not very
expansive- don't try to practice your barganing skills.
Other than that, I highly reccommand a guidbook, at least
for the city maps and the locations of the various "bus
stations", It you go to antigua and want to keep things
cheap, you should know that antigua does not have a great
"bus station" for other destinations (however, the city
    itself is great). Good luck
    michal
