I have been contemplating riding motorcylces with a freind
of mine from US to Guatemala. is this a rediculous and
terrible idea? I know Guatemala is fine, but heard only bad
news about crossing Mexico. anyone have any first-hand
experience to speak of? thanx. SMHH

I rode a motorcycle from San Francisco to La Paz (Bolivia)
and spent 3 years between Mexico and Sth america. I crossed
El salvador and Nicaragua on the last stage of their civil
war. I'm leaving From Melbourne on 15 July 1999 for L.A and
take my Yamaha 900 Diversion with me to go all the way -
well I hope - to Ushuaia and up to Brazil.
Therefore it would be a ridiculous and a terrible idea not
to do it. Jump on that bike of yours and do it. Expect rough
roads though from Tikal to Rio Dulce.
Have a good trip

I am seriously thinkiung of riding a motorcycle from texas
to guatemala and beyond as well. i think it would be foolish
not to indulge such a reasonable goal. Marco polo set off
around the world on foot. they can take our motorcycles (the
mexican police) but they cant take our lives. I am prepared
to give up my motorcycle anyways to make this trip...are
you?
I would not suggest driving to texas however from virginia.
rather, pack the bike into a cargo van and drive to the
border of texas and mexico.
okay buddy--get back to me.

well, what kind of bike? if you're thinking a harley dress
tourer, then you may well be crazy. I'm considering it with
my KLR650 in mind. The CBR600F2 would not enjoy it. But the
KLR650 just ate up the Baja roads.
Where have you heard bad tales of Mexican travels (aside
from people getting screwed by tour companies...)?
