To bring or not to bring...
1)Headed to the highlands of Guatemala within a week. Last time I was there was around january and I was verry chilly. I am wondering if the temperatures this time of year warrant bringing a sleepng bag ... anyone....?
2) Bay Islands, Honduras. shgould I bring a mosquito net or are they generally supplied at places to stay?
Do these items merit carrying the extra cargo?
Those of you who have ever felt foolish squeezing through a crowded central american busses with a big bag migh be able to sympathise.

I've been there this time of year and it gets cold(at least
to someone from San Diego). If you are only in the highlands
for a short time why not get a Momostenango blanket? Can use
it as a beach blanket and then have a nice souvenir..they
last forever.
I was in the highlands a few weeks ago and didn't find it
too cold (I'm from NY State). I wouldn't bother with a
sleeping bag - not worth the hassle of lugging it around.
if you feel you need something more, buy a blanket when you
are here. The prices are so cheap,it is worth buying
something to keep you warm, then give it away to someone
who can continue to use it when you are gone.
If you think you want a sleeping bag, there is a new place
open in Antigua that rents out slleping bags, tents and
other equipment.

mosquitos are not the biggest problem on the bay
islands...sandflies and (sometimes jellyfish in the water)
are a much bigger nuisance.I'm not sure a net would do you
much good.pack plenty of deet for the mossies and Avon"skin-
so-soft" for the flies instead. Stay away from touristy
roatan and concentrate on utila instead....good luck!
I agree with Anja on the preparing for the sandflies info,
but I would caution anyone on choosing Utila over Roatan.
Although Utila is a lot less touristy, it is also not
nearly as beautiful an island as Roatan.
