  2. Many good schools in Xela... Added by: Peter

I had an extremely good experience at Education Para Todos,
on 6a calle, 4 or 5 blocks from the main square on the left
hand side. School is a non-profit cooperative, they donate
profit to the guat. educational fund. The teachers were
mostly grad students from the local university. Excellent
level of instruction. My days in Xela are the only formal
spanish schooling I've ever had and now (after a good deal
of practice!) I am basically fluent.
You can just stop by and tell them you want to sign up,
starting monday. They will either place you that day with
a family or ask you to come back on monday with your bag
for your first class and then to your host family.
The deal was, 5 hours a day of personal instruction,
optional weekend trips, movie nights, guest speakers from
local communities, room and 3 meals a day with a lcoal
family ~ all for about $100 (can't remember, maybe it was
    $125).
I've also heard good things about "Escuela Juan Sisay" but
I don't have any specific info on that one. I've generally
heard excellent things about most of the schools in Xela.
    Enjoy, Peter.
