Hi!
We are planning to visit Baja California around 19 - 24
July. The week before we are in San Diego.
Is a regular car OK to travel down south? Do europeans need
visas? We have only about a week - we have to be back in San
Diego about 25 July.
Is Mulege a nice place to stay? Can you recommend Hotel Cabo
San Lucas for this short trip? Cabo Pulmo? El Cardonel?
Happy travels!

I've been looking for info on Baja too and the only thing I
can suggest you is to put your post also on the North
America branch of the tree, 'cause Mexico is considered
part of North America, so... maybe you could get some news
    from there too.

Hotel Cabo San Lucas is nice. On a rocky outcropping near a
snorkel beach. Old style two story wing bldgs. with nice
landscaping. My girlfriend thought she would like to stay
there next time. Fortunately it is halfway between the ugly
town of Cabo San Lucas and the lovely town of San Jose del
Cabo. We stayed at Fiesta Inn Hotel on the beach in San
Jose del Cabo and found it very nice. Both places are a bit
pricey. If you stay at Fiesta Inn request one of the newer
remodeled rooms toward the ocean. Cabo Pulmo is very
primitive and isolated. Small houses for rent. More
snorkeling near the reef there. Time seems to stretch the
further south you go in Baja. One week will mean you drive
full time two days down and two days back at least. Drive
daylight only. Too many obstacles such as burros and cattle
near road and dirt washed onto roadway at low spots in
arroyos. The highway is quite passable for a passenger car
however. Check out Todos Santos north of Cabo San Lucas if
you hit it at a good time of day.
UK citizens must show passport to obtain tourist card at
border, France and Germany get visa stamped into passport at
border. Others should check in advance and be certain of
reentry visa back into USA. If given a tourist card (slip
of paper) do not lose it as you surrender it when you leave
Mexico. Check out website at www.vivacabo.com

#2 has good advice. It will be very hot then..as high as
110F. Make sure you have plenty of water and your car is in
good shape. The Mexican Green Angels patrol the main highway
to assist motorists in trouble. Cabo is a long drive. Mulege
would be a better choice for such a short time. The warning
about being able to return to the US is important. Your visa
must allow multiple re-entries into the US. I knew some South
Africans who made the mistake of going to TJ with a single
entry visa and were stuck in TJ until they found a hole in
the fence. I live in San Diego so if you need any tips about
    it let me know.

I am looking to go down to baja for a very short trip, about
3/4 days, can you reccomend the best way to spend my time? I
am comming from phoenix for a short vacation. I am looking
for palces to stay that are on the inexpensive side
(under$80US) but are still decent. I was thinking about
rosarita or ensceneda? any help would be appreciated.
