There are no cheap hotels near
    the airport, and no real
    advantage to staying there
unless you have an early flight
the next day. I have stayed at
    the Riazor which Frommers used
    to recommend. It is reasonable,
but not cheap, and not that close
to the airport. It is okay if you
are flying out the next morning,
    because there was relatively
    little traffic congestion.
The only time I have stayed at a
hotel in the centre, I stayed at
the Isobel. It was okay, and
    seems to be recommended highly
by others. I arrived really late
and the only remaining room was
on the roof, and I left the next
morning, so I never tried the
    restaurant which I read is
    recommended. Since the centre
is not that safe after dark, it is
    an advantage to have a
restaurant in the hotel if you are
    arriving after dark.
I have usually statyed near the
Plaza of the Revolution, but that
area raises a whole lot of other
issues, which I could explain if
you are interested. (I have been
to Mexico City about a half dozen
times, and could try to answer
    any specific questions you might
    have.)

A three floor-hotel on AVENIDA 5 DE MAYO, two blocks from
Zocalo, next to the Cafe Popular (very tasty goodies by the
way) is very good and very cheap and you can
reach it by metro (station:Zocalo).Rooms with/wthout shower,
single, double, multiple! I┤ve been there twice, in 1996 and
this year two months ago. And the name begins with a letter
    Z..

If you are use to budget travel then you will often have
stayed in whore houses - try the Oxford hotel near
Revolocion - 9 US with bathroom en suite and a queen size
bed. Whores are not included though. This is a safe option
    - lots more down the street(bl
