Hi, I┤ll arrive at La Aurora, Guatemala City, next month
around eight in the evening ("PM" i think most of you call
it). My original plans were to take a bus or taxi to
Antigua the same night and there try to find a hotel. Now
however I┤m starting to think that maybe I┤ll expose my
self to more danger then necessary. A better idea would
perhaps be to stay at one of the hotels nearby the airport.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Thanks.
Mike

I was in Guatemala last month - I arrived late in the
evening (originally scheduled for 10:30 p.m., but the plane
didn't arrive until 2 a.m.). I went ahead and took a taxi
to Antigua, and didn't have any problems. I think you
should be fine at 8 p.m. - also, Guatemala City is a pit and
you should spend (waste!) as little time there as possible.
I stayed at El Descanso in Antigua - right off the Parque
Central - room w/private bath should cost you about $20.
Very nice place!
Have fun!
At that hour, i suggest paying the same price for a
private/tourist shuttle pick-up than to take a taxi.
Taxis are not accountable to anyone and often break-down en
route.

don┤t sress yourself trying to get rid of Guatemala city.
I recommend you to stay at Dos Lunas Guest House, is like one minute or so from airport.
Price is really cheap US$10.00 each with shuttle from airport and breakfast incl.
believe me the place is very clean and safe. but make reservationin advance because they are always full house.
contact them at lorena@pronet.net.gt / dos_lunas@hotmail.com
they have a web site www.xelapages.com/doslunas
