My partner and I are travelling to mexico for a month in
October/November. I really would love to do the Canyon,
but it just seems a bit out of the road from everything
else. Anyone been there that has an opionion on whether it
is worth it? Otherwise any other similair suggestions
further south?

We were there last October and found it well worth it. It
can be done much cheaper than the tours as well. Its so
vast and beautiful that you could spend a month there and
never get tired of the changes. If its out of the way on
your trip, consider going from Los Mochis by train through
the canyon and keep going to Chihauhau. Then bus south to
Zacetacas which in and of itself is incredible and on to
Guadalajara, returning by the coast back up to Los Mochis if
you need a round trip. Check out our website for info on
    doing it budget http://home.pacbell.net/fidlafam

i've been to mexico 7 or 8 times and definitely would
recommend copper canyon, as long as you do more than just
take the train through it. the scenery on the train is
absolutely gorgeous, but the best part to me was spending
time in creel and hiking into the canyon. the culture and
people here are quite different from other parts of mexico,
and extremely interesting. i didn't have time to get to
batopilos but wished i had; have heard good things.

yeah, i would recommend going to copper canyon. i was
there several years ago during christmas vacation. the
area is inexpensive, the locals are generous, and the
canyon is breath-taking. we did a four day hike from creel
to batopilas-its a must. take a good map of the area,
though. we got off the trail and ended up lost for a
    night. right on.
