Hi everyone, you could`nt resist!!
We are 3 Italians going to CA late this summer, and would bee yours for ever if you point us in the right direction.
What should we do when we arrive MexCity late in the evening (accommodations, what area etc). Are we safe there that late? "Should I stay or should I go" from DF right away?
Where should we go from MexCity, via Vercruz to Yucatan/ Cancun (expensive)/ Quintana Roo/Tulum (crowded?) or Oaxaca or Chiapas (rainy)?? Or maybe straight to Guatemala (lake Atitlan/ Tikal something..). What about baia California?
Is it better to go north from DF this time of year, considering the rainy season in the south, or is it just the same in the north?
We just want to kick back and relax, meet fellow travellers, meet the sun, and have a beach party perhaps.
Tanks in advance
Have a nice day, and see you there.
Rocky

Dear "stalion", you'd better stop with such stupid title
for your post. Believe it or not, lots of people are better
than "italian stalions" and, moreover, I don't think this
is the right place for you.. Mollateci.... credo che sia
meglio vi rivolgiate in un altro posto!!

You should be safe coming into Mexico City at night if you
follow a few precautions. I assume you will arrive by
plane but the general suggestions hold true at the bus
stations as well. After you pick up your luggage someone
will eagerly show you to the place where you buy vouchers
for authorized taxis. You pay inside the terminal and
someone else escorts you to a waiting cab. You give no
money to the driver. A hotel we often use is Hotel Capitol
#12 Uruguay. It is clean, comfortable and affordable. It
also has a nice little restaurant and bar just off the
lobby. I would not advise you to go out on the streets
until daylight. The clerks at the front desk will help you
with directions. The hotel is just about 6 blocks from the
zocalo. There are lots of charming and friendly outdoor
restaurants all around the plaza. Usually the tables are
filled with tourists and their guide books. It is perfectly
acceptable to walk over to someone you think might share
your sightseeing interests and start a conversation. Many
of the tourists have just come from interesting places all
around Central America as well as Mexico and they can give
you a current idea about things to do and how much they
    may cost. Enjoy your visit!!

Be sure & explore the biggest populated city in the world...they have much to offer in mexico city. If you don't have too much baggage..and you shouldn't..take the metro to the balderas street station. Two blocks away is the hotel fornos...on revillagigedo #92..for 12 bucks a night it is a first class hotel with sparking rooms and high class restaurant.
...if it's full they will recommend the hotel san diego for a little less money on the other side of the parking lot..but again a nice hotel & restaurant.
...I found the metro gets me to just about everywhere I want to go...or at least to the bus stations that can take me the rest of the way. Plus it's safe, graffiti and litter free as well as cheap.
...The balderas station is only a stop or two from the insurgentes station which is the gateway for the zona rosa and a safe night life party site. My favorite place to have a beer, eats and people watch is at the TACOntendo...located at the insurgentes station....try it as the locals will treat you well...they have a great juke box selection there as well.

I too enjoyed the Hotel Capitol. Good place if you have any
worries about Mexico City. Must have a meal at the huge
Spanish restaurant next door. Strange to go to Mexico for
Spanish food but you won't be sorry.
