Hi everyone. Is Costa Rica really that expensive? If I go
for a month vacation, how much money woud i need for a low-
budget trip? Is it true that in july and august the rates
are cheaper? thanks, Marit.

Lot cheaper than Europe. Figure $25 a day hotel and meals and
incidentals at a minimum..some can do it for less. Other
costs depend on what you do and how fast. Bus fares are
reasonable and distances are short so that shouldn't be a big
factor. Tours are expensive(relatively)..they cater more to
the upper market. However some are very unique ie. canopy
tour that they are worth it. An extra couple of hundred
dollars on splurges don't really take that long back home to
work off. Some prices are cheaper in the summer in comparison
to the high season. Mainly nicer hotels and tours. Anytime
you plan to stay more than a couple of nights at a hotel it
doesn't hurt to ask for a discount.

Listen, guatamala blows costa rica away and costs much less-
I have been to CR 4 times, it is nice but really Guata is so
much more interesting and the cost is 1/2 of CR- just my 2
    cen

I donÆt think, costa rica is that expensive. it really
depends on, how you travel. I spent 800 dollars in one month,
but didnÆt stay in the cheapest places and also did some
tours. that's not too bad, I think. yes, i think in the
summer you get better rates for hotels

Kirk is right ! I have travelled whole Central America
(except Honduras because it was fucked up by Mitch) last
year and found CR very expensive and full of dumb gringos.
Try Guatemala or Nicaragua, where it is even cheaper.
If you want to travel cheap, go to Nicaragua: I never spent
more than 10$ a day including clean and safe accomodation,
good breakfast, local bus or entry fares, coffee, dinner,
    fresh fruit,.....
In CR you pay at least 5$ to enter a National Park together
with many other (often package) tourists. In Nicaragua you
pay nothing and can walk around by your own and watch the
    wildlife...

Don Jorge- Why don't you keep your opinion about supposed
"dumb gringos" to yourself????? that's a nasty thing to
say; a blatant generalization that doesn't sit well with
    me. Kiss off.
