Just a quickie...I resigned from my job yesterday as a High
school teacher in London to travel CA from August to
December. I'm psyched already, but give me some
encouragement.........:-)

We're envious of your decision!
In the last 15 months, my wife and I have been to every
Central American country. They're each interesting and
unique in their own right.
We found the Lonely Planet guides very good, but, of
course, your best source of information is other travelers
who've just been to where you're going.
In general, we've found the local very friendly,
particularly if you'll speak a few words of Spanish to them
first - even if that's all the Spanish you speak.
We've never had any trouble with crime, even in El
Salvador, which has a bad reputation. The crime we hear
about is alway of the purse snatching variety, so carry the
bulk of your money & passport on an inside money belt. US
dollars seem to be accepted or easily exchanged everywhere.
Travel by bus, stay cheap, and have a great trip...and life!
You are going to have the time of your life and be glad that you made the decision you did.
YOU ARE NOT CRAZY!! REMEMBER THAT NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE
THINKS OF YOUR DECISION. TRAVELLING IS THE GREATEST GIFT
YOU CAN GIVE YOURSELF. IT WILL BROADEN ALL HORIZONS AND
HELP YOU KNOW YOURSELF BETTER. MY MOTTO IS "WHEN IN DOUBT,
QUIT YOUR JOB!"
