experiences in CA,traveling. I have been putting of el sav.
due to the fact I keep hearing it is not safe and offers
very little compared to other countries in CA. But some of
the best trips I've ever been on where the ones I was the

If you're a beach lover, el sal is great. For other
experiences, Guate is terrific. Hond is rough right now, as
posts below this one will testify.
salvador has great beaches... you need 2 days for that,
honduras.... not a good idea at the moment, guatemala,
volcanoes, river rafting, museums, culture, maya ruins and
history, also great jungle treks, etc.... your choice, good
luck
You'll hear a lot of negative things about places that when
you get there just don't turn out to be as bad as
described. Some people have bad experiences but again you
can have one of those practically anywhere. You have to
take certain prudent precautions. Be alert for people who
express more than a mild passing curiosity about you.
Beware of them and when you see them just go the other way.
Be especially careful in busy places like bus terminals and
the like. Don't go to strange places at night. El Salvador
has received a bum rap and it definitely is worth visiting
although Guatemala has more and varied things to see -
besides the fact that the weather is just better there.
(Much cooler).
Go there... you'll feel great about getting off the gringo
trail and talking to fascinating people who have a lot to
say about the civil war there. But, be careful. I felt
safe during my 8 days or so there but 2 travellers I bumped
into again...one had seen 2 people get shot while in line
for the cinema, and the other was mugged at machete point.
GO!!! but con cuidado
I just returned from two weeks in El Sal. and enjoyed it.
I rented a car and drove around the country NEVER feeling
the least bit threatened. Walked all around San Salvador,
no problems whatsoever!!! Are there problems, of course
but standard precautions did it for me. The people were
very glad we were there and anxious to show us their
country and insure we had a positive experience. We did!!!
