I'm going to Mexico for three weeks the day after tomorrow.
I plan to see Puerto Morelos (south of Cancun), Isla
Mujeres, Palenque, Merida and Tikal(Guatemala). Does anyone
have any suggestions about what to do, what to see, where
to stay, where to eat and how to get around et c? I fly
from Sweden to Cancun and back.
Thanks in advance!

i'm swedish too, but it seems a bit discriminating not to
post things in english. i've only been tikal out of the
places you mentioned. as for tikal and flores i advice you
to stay in flores and take the bus to tikal. that is if you
dont want to spend the night in the temple and watch the
sunrise. and can't remember the name of the place in
flores. but if you're interested mail me and i can look it
up. i'm going to the region myself lees than two weeks from
now. want to get together for a beer in merida?
    ciao

    well, you are lucky!
in merida you can buy souvenirs at it's best. I've seen things there and then never again.
if you are on tight budget try hotel mayflower. it's really ok and very cheap. as lonely planet say, you can take this as your homebase and travel around, it's soooo true!
palenque is one of the most interesting ruins (do I think). if you are there, try to see the aqua azul. palenque itself is quite ugly, but it's alright to have a base there to go on. you could go through Guat. then, visiting bonampaq and have a wonderful trip through the jungle.
the most wonderful place I had found was san christobal de las casas, which is in chiapas. first: it's very nice to stay there. and it's cheap.
if you are interested in any natural phenomenon, go to the canyon. just take one of the collectivos either from this ugly town at the bottom of the hills, something with x, i forgot the name or from san christobal. ask the driver to let you out at the canyon and take a boat trip through. you won't forget it.
if you are going to have some lazy days at the carribeean coast, try playa del carmen to see it packed over and over with nice guys from argentina. try "captn tutix", they are there. and they have fun!
if you don't like packed beaches at all: i found isla mujeres much too nice to leave it... take a hammock from merida or elsewhere, hang ot in between two palmtrees and get happy.
    wish you what!

I agree with Jon - I did the same trip!
Got the bus from the airport to the bus station in town
then went straight upto Merida - which I thought was very
grotty. If you stay there try to get a bus to Izamal -
    beautiful place.
Re: Tikal - oh my god - you must stay on site. This is the
    most magical place on earth!
SC is great too - I'm sure you read about meeting up with
that woman in the square - thats a must do too! There are
some great coffee places too - though some gave the
impression of being in USA. The rooms were wonderfully
cheap and "Mexican". Go horse riding - you either get a
horse that doesnt move or one that wont stop!!!
We did a similar trip to you in 3 weeks and mainly caught
overnight buses for the long distance journeys ie Merida to
Palenque then came back to the coast. (Playa del Carmen
seemed way expeno by the time we got there!!)

  7. Flight to Cancun Added by: Petter (Petholm@online.no)

    Hi!
I`m planning on doing approxiomately the same trip as you
in sep/oct. It doesn`t seem to be any flights from Oslo
though, so I was wondering about your flight from Sweden.
Is there a direct flight from Stockholm/Gothenburg to
Cancun, and if so, how much?
I would also be grateful for any other inputs about your
    stay.
    Petter
