Hi!
We're going to Baja for a few days, from San Diego in July.
We are thinking of Playa Grande, San Felipe, San Luis
Gonzaga or Puertocitos.
Can anyone recommend any of these places? We prefer laidback
athmosphere and nice snorkelling. Any nice guest houses or
hotels?
Thanx in advance!

  1. No snorkeling there Added by: Koyote Karlos (fubeard@hotmail.com)

    Hola Bianca,
I have spent considerable time in the San Felipe area and
throughout the Baja. There is essentially no snorkeling in
the northern Baja as the tide rushes back and forth,
clouding the water too much. Its as much as a 15 foot or
more tide change. If you can make it down to La Paz, get
out to Isla Espiritu Santos where the snorkeling and spear
fishing is great and beautiful. $100 oneway air from
Tijuana to there is not too expensive and its well worth it
    while not being real touristy.
If you need to stay in the northern gulf coast area, San
Felipe is a party town but fun. Lots of hotels and
guesthouses to stay in. Puertocitos is not doing well so
there may be no rooms or restaurant at this time. Gonzaga
Bay is one of my favorites and you can stay at the very
laid back Alphonsinas or Papa Fernandos and virtually have
miles of beach and exploring almost to yourself. Its a
long drive from San Felipe...perhaps 5 hours depending on
how many potholes have been filled since last hurricane.
Well worth the effort to get there but probably little
    snorkeling. Enjoy. Koyote Karlos
