Beaches in Ecuador

I've been doing my research on Ecuador like a good pre-
tourist, but I'm not finding much on swimming-lying-on-sand
beaches. Any opinions?

The word around is, you can find at decent beach near
Esmeraldas. But then again, the Pacific coast of South
America was never meant for beaches, and I recon the water
could be quite cold as well.
Try to find a nice spot where the wind won┤t reach you, in
    Ba±os instead :)

True, the watewr is kinda cold (but you get used to
it)--unless it's an El Nino year, in which case the water
will be the temperature of kukewarm bath water.
Anyway, I've been to Same three times. You can take an
express bus from Quito to Atacalmes then a collectivo to
Same. Warning, there is not much of a nightlife--there are
a few restuarants down the beach a bit, but in general it's
quiet and peaceful. I have stayed at Hostal El Rampiral and
highly recommend it. It is right on the water and has
hammocks, horses, pool tables, a pool, excellent small
restaurant, etc. Jaime, the owner and his family are very
    friendly and helpful.
