Mexican Busses

I am going to travel from Nuevo Laredo to Mexico City by bus
in mid May. Due to a very tight schedule I am trying to get
some specific info beforehand. My only experience with this
route was on the train - which was waaay too slow. If anyone
has recent information (approximate time, cost, and bus line
suggestions), I would be grateful.
Thanks.

I don't know current prices but buses between major Mexican
cities and the capital run about every hour or so. Several
large lines service northern Mexico. If you've seen the train
times then figure between 2/3 or 1/2 of that for the bus.
Express or sleeper buses cost more but are faster..fewer
    stops..and more comfortable.

you will most likely travel from Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey,
(3 hrs. aprox.) and then to Mexico City (11 hrs. aprox.), so
I suggest an overnight bus ride.
The most comfortable (and expensive) busline is ETN, wich
can service you from Monterrey to Mexico City, from Nuevo
Laredo I┤m not so sure, other good buslines are Futura,
Turistar, Transportes del Norte (TN), Omnibus de Mexico
(OdeM), buses from Monterrey to Mexico City depart allmost
every hour on different buslines with the last ones being at
    about 10:00 or 11:00 p.m.
Don┤t know about the schedules from Nuevo Laredo; basically
there are only a few bus companies in Mexico, but each of
them carry a lot of other buslines, so variations in prices
and schedules are not that great, hope this helps.

  3. etn if it's available Added by: coyoteway

My experience has been to always go etn if they service the
route. Best busses, best service. You pay more, but on a
trip that long, it's worth the expense.

We often travel by bus between N Laredo and Mexico City.
The buses are frequent and fairly comfortable. You do not
need to make any reservations ahead of time. We live in
Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, not far from Guatemala. Flights
from here to N Laredo with a 2 hour layover in Mexico City
cost $108 via Aerocaribe. Flights from here to Mexico City
are $118. Go figure? Anyway, friends of mine buy the
flight to or fromN Laredo and stay in Mexico City because
    it is cheaper.

I just wanted to say for all the help. I am looking forward
    to the trip.
(now if I can just get to the border without suffering
    Greyhound)

Agree with you totally about Greyhound. Someone once said
to ride Greyhound is to know the who's who in the world of
mental illness. There are numerous buslines which travel
from the US down into Mesico. The one we use from Houston
is El Expreso, but there are many more. They seem to be
the best kept secrets of the Mexican ex-pat community. A
ticket from Houston to Mexico City is $94 and includes a
courtesy stop at Migracion for tourist cards and a customs
check at the bus station in Nuevo Laredo so that there are
no more luggage checks at the usual 12 mile point. A
ticket from Houston to Nuevo Laredo is $25 and one to
Matamoros is $20 with numerous times to chose from. If you
have a Mexican friend in the US, you would be well served
to ask for suggestions as to which buses they use to visit
family in Mexico. I always chuckle a bit because the El
Expreso station in Houston is right across the street from
Greyhound, but while you wait to board the bus you are
already in gracious, charming, Spanish-speaking Mexico. No
drunken bums sleeping one off on the floor of the lobby, if
you know what some Greyhound stations in the US are like.
And to make the wait go by more quickly there are always
vendors selling wonderful tacos and other antojitos from
ice chests. Have a good trip!!!!
