It costs about $90 round trip on RACSA, which is a little
hairy, and I think $120 on the larger, more expensive
planes.
You can stay in El Remate at El Gringo Perdido; they offer
a crack o' dawn shuttle service to Tikal, 35 or so minutes
away with boxed lunch (order before 7 the night before).
Cheaper than staying onsite, I think, though still more
expensive than most of the rest of Guatemala.
When I was there you could get a ticket in Antigua,40
minutes from Guatemala City, for 200US return..unless you
find a seat sale during low season or if you have the time
there are various bus tours and regular buses that travel
there too. The bus tours are much cheaper but it takes
about 12 hours by bus and some of the roads are quite
rugged. It think for about 50- 70 US you could on a bus
tour or you could take the regular local buses for much
cheaper but more uncomfortable.

They are in Antigua and have some good deals to Tikal. Nancy
is very helpful. You may have seen some of her posts on here.
i just returned about three weeks ago. You can look for r/t
flights to cost around $130-160. I flew up on RACSA which,
as stated above, is hairy, and flew back on Tikal Jets, an
older 727 with no airconditioning system.
It is far easier to have a travel agent in antigua organize
your trip (at least the airfare). You can get inclusive
packages fairly cheaply to include lodging.
We opted to pay $5 and camp there at the ruins. i recommend
staying at the ruins if you can. The sunset in El Mundo
Perdido is spectacular--for the sunset and for the birds.
The sunrise is almost as fantastic. Besides you will also
have the ruins to yourself for a few hours which is nice.

She'll give you an air-only quote, or a tour.

John,
When you say you camp at the ruins, do you mean in a tent or
under a palapa with your hamaca?
Was it right in the Tikal park?
Thanks
Julio
Julio: we rented tents in antigua (from Old Town
Outfitters on Calle 6a). Tikal has an "official" camping
spot which is right by the entrance. There is plenty of
wildlife to see (and hear) and allows for easy access to the
ruins at night and in the morning. I would recommend a tent
over a hammock. We met a German who slept in a hammock and
had mosquito netting that did not work very well. He had
mosquito bites all over.
Bus fare one way on airconditioned bus is Q110.00. The trip
takes about ten hours. You can rent camping equipment in
the park itself but you risk getting there after its all
taken. In El Remate you can get a hammock in the Parador
del Pajaro Serpiente and the place to sling it costs about
Q40.00/night.
