My friend and I are travelling this July. We are trying to
decide between Equador and Guatemala. Can you all help us?
Could you give a good comparison between the two i.e.
prices, weather, things to see, etc. Thanks!!

Go to Guatemala, a lot of things to see. very cheap destination... weather is a rainy seasson but not all the day. In guate you can find, mayan sites, rain forest, colonial towns, caribbean, pacific coast, the great wes thighlands
very friendly people....
I spent three months in Guate this past year and it was fabulous. I can't comment on Ecuador, I'm sure it's beautifull but I've been home now for three months and I want to go back!!!

I've only been to Guate so I cant compare. Guate is
beautiful though and as far as I've heard cheaper than
Ecuador. I'm about to go back in June and beginning of
July. See you in Antigua!!!!
ciao
I respectfully disagree with the above posts. True,
Guatamala is beautiful--both the people and the scenery.
However, I prefer Ecuador. It is cheaper, has better
tarnsportation (but the same amount of chickens on the
busses). As for weather, it will vary in both places,
depending on if you are in the highlands, on the beach or in
the rainforest. If you are into ruins, then Tikal is
uncomparable--both for the ruins and for the wildlife.
However, if you are into mountains, cloud forests, hiking,
then Ecuador is better. Riding on top of the Riobamba-Bucay
train is great.
I have heard many good things about Guatemala, but I can
assure that Ecuador is incredible. The biospheric-diversity
is unriveled. Few other places can you be high in the Andes
surrounded by snow-capped volcanoes in the morning and at
night be on the Pacific coast or in the Amazon river basin.
The beauty of the Andes is uncomparable. Ecuador has such a
severe dichotomy. The Coast and the Andes. Quito itself is
magnificent. It is split into two sections, modern Quito
and Colonial Quito. The churches of Colonial Quito are
incredible. The modern half is new, clean, and filled with
night life. The entire city is nestled in an Andean valley
shadowed by a snow-capped volcano. Unbelievable.
