May is warm , nothing to worry about till around Sept or
Oct for rain but I would suggest that you bring warm
clothes and sleeping bag for the highlands if you plan to
be there in Oct to Jan it's pretty cool at night, and
without heat it can be uncomfortable if unprepared. It all
depends on your length of stay and months of stay.

the rainy season here in Guatemala STARTS in May and ends in
    October.
Usually the rain cools the otherwise hot day.
Regardless of time of year, always expect it to be cooler in
    the highlands.

I live in Quetzaltenango in the Western Highland. It has
been sunny and hot here for the last 2 weeks.
Typical weather for this time of year.
Last year we started getting rain in late July and it
    continued until Mitch in November.
    Hope this helps.

Hi I'm looking for information on surfing in june in costa rica. Is it necessary to book through an outfitter or can we venture on our own on the pacific side. Is the surfing beginner friendly?? will we get completely rained out??
    thanks.

Hello Mrs. Lundagard.....just came across your note. I
can't give you a very good answer to your question quite
yet...get back to you on May 26th when I get home. I do
have a little nugget of wisdom for you, though (because I
made this same mistake)....be sure to post a new question
on the main page, not a link like this one (that way more
people see it)...the add-a-post is at the bottom of the
main page. OK, have fun, see you soon, Nickle
