You might want to look into ICADS (Institute for Central
American Development Studies). They have month-long
programs where you study Spanish in San Jose and live with
a family. I did this in 1990, so I don't really have up-
to-date info. on the cost of the program. I had a pretty
good experience with it, and I would probably recommend it.
I guess it depends what you're looking for exactly. I'd
say that it is a we-run program, and that the quality of
the language instruction was pretty good. And you have
weekends free to travel (CR is a beautiful country!)

Sorry-- there was a typo in the message I just posted.
    ICADS is a "well-run" program (not "we-run").

I went to Conversa which is in a rural town outside of San
Jose in the Meseta Central. I would recommend it if living
in a peaceful countryside setting is important to you. I
can't compare it to other schools in terms of teaching
quality or price but it was satisfactory.
    Buena suerte.
