Hi
I am travelling to Mexico for three weeks, can anyone
comment on the places i MUST visit, amd whether Copper
Canyon is worth getting to.
Also, how true is it that women are still not accepted in
the Cantinas?
thanks

I`ve never been to Mex, going there this summer as well.
Anyway, LP Mex says women still should be accompanied
by a gentleman when going to a cantina.
Though that is no problem for me....
See you!
palenque and oaxaca are a must see. Playa del carmen is
great too, if you have time.
I highly recommend Guanajuato for "old colonial Mexico."
You probably wouldn't go wrong if you stayed in
Oaxaca/Yucatan/Quintana Roo region, either.
I wouldn't recommend the cantinas for a gal. There are
loads of taco stands and little open air places everywhere
where you can sit down and have a beer or two. They're very
pleasant. Just do it in moderation and order a bite of food
too - it's great, as is Mexican beer [if you like lagers].
Mexican beer is more corn-y than hop-py, so the flavor is
very mild. Try Sol and Corona. There are some dark beers,
too.
Have fun!
Hi! I lived in the Guadalajara area for four mos. and from
my experience, you wouldn't even want to go to a
traditional "cantina". Like the post above said, there are
tons of taquerias or restaurants where you can get a beer,
but in the larger cities you can fiend regular bars/discos.
They're meant more for the younger (18-25) crowd, men and
women! However, because Mex had a long history of
"machismo" you can never escape the cat calls. But don't be
discouraged, it's only talk. Feel free to email me! I'm
also returning to Mex. in 4 weeks. Happy travels!
I wouldn't miss Chiapas and San Cristobal de las casas.
True, many tourists in San Cristobal, but it is beautiful.
Why don't you visit the smaller villages outside S.C.
I'm going there in June. See ya.
Ciao
