visas for irishmen

My boyfriend of 3 years (he's irish, I'm australian) and I
applied for a de facto visa in Dublin in January. They told
us it would take 3-4 months but it is over that now and we
are still waiting. Anyone out there in the same position who
can tell me what to expect? I am getting a bit lonely and
tired of waiting! Are we likely to get it ? Has anyone ever
been knocked back? It's a pain in the arse.

Australian Immigration will do everything they can to block
the visa - they are really quite rotten. The only thing
that works is just to push and push from this end -
telehone the Embassy yourself from Australia, send FAXes,
just keep annoying them. Pull any influential strings you
can, keep sending supporting references from all and
sundry. One thing I would say is be grateful he isn't from
somewhere in Asia, then they get really mean.

Its precisely because of the rorting of the system by
Asians (and some others) that tehy have got mean.
I would not recommend hassling the Embassy, it will be
    counter-productive.
    Good luck Gem
