Sydney Accommodation

I am coming to Sydney, Aus. with my husband and 8 year old
son in mid-Jan. 2000. We are looking for recommendations for
accommodation - we'll only be in Sydney for 3 nights. Our
budget is tight so we're looking for somewhere under $100
night. Generally we're looking for somewhere safe and clean
as we have our son with us...does anyone recommend hostels,
hotels, Bed and breakfasts and specifically which ones?
Thanks

  1. Where? Added by: mpoll

It depends a lot on your preferenes. Do you want to be in
the city centre? By the beaches in the Eastern Suburbs? on
the North Shore? by the Harbour?

Regarding accomodation in Sydney, we think we'd prefer the
Harbour, but since we've never been there, we're open to all
suggestions! We'll only have a few days there so we'll be
pretty tourist-y, but if anyone knows of an "out of the way
secret" that we should check out, we'd love to know about
    it. thanks!

Sydney City YHA is brand spanking new - and right in the middle of the city. Family rooms are available I think, if you book far enough ahead - suggest you book way ahead for Jan 2000. Should definetly meet your $$ requirements.

St Leonards Mansions at 7 Park Road, St Leonards. Self
contained rooms for under $100 per night and about 25mins
drive from 5 or 6 beaches. 15 mins on the train or 1 hours
    walk from the CBD.

All YHAs have family rooms, so you can all stay
together, meet other travellers ,cook your own food and
    stick to your budget.
There are 5 YHAs in Sydney one right on the beach. Check
out the YHA web page at www.yha.org.au

Try the Coogee Bay Hotel. Its recently been renovated so I
don't know if it meets your price range. Its right on
Coogee Beach, plenty of shops, cafes, walks, parks, etc
nearby and about 20 mins by bus to the city. Also close to
Centennial park and you can follow the beaches to Bondi.

Hard to go past the YHA.Great location-close to the Central
Station and all major bus lines. The airport bus will
deliver you right to the door. It's about $20-22 for a
single bed in a dorm room. It's not on the harbour but for
$100 you would be unlikely to get suitable accomodation.

Was just there and it was great. Spanking new, and
extremely clean. I was totally impressed. Make sure to make
reservations though, because although it's supposed to be
the off-peak season right now in Australia, the YHA was
still fully booked up and had a notice on its doors "We're
fully booked till next month". Fantastic location, about 20
mins walk to the Harbour. If you don't wanna walk, catch a
public bus (exit hostel, turn left on george Street), 5
mins and you're at the harbour.
