Buying cars in Melbourne

My family and I will be moving to the Melbourne area in
December for one year. We need to purchase a dependable,
reasonably priced used car. I've seen a number of posts on
the Thorn Tree about the convenient car sale yards in
Sydney used by other travelers who then sell back the car
at a pre-determined price. Does Melbourne also have a
similar reputable car sale yard where I can buy a
dependable car and sell it back to them a year later? Or
should I just work with dealers or seek a private sale in
the paper once I arrive?

there's a place called Car City out of town...not catering
specifically to backpackers but its one 2nd-and dealership
    after another.

Car city is on Maroondah Hwy in Ringwood. There's around
    1000 cars there.

There are ten acres of cars at Car City.
You'd have to be a LOONEY to go anywhere else.
    (sorry, c. 1992 Melbourne joke)
