Hi you all
I'm planning to do the Routeburn track, Greenstone Track and
Mavora-Greenstone walkway (south) all and all within 6-7
days (insted of 3days for the first one, 2-3days for the
second, and 3-4days for the last one).
Has any one of you out there done it befor?
Is it possible, or it's completly crasy?
Any other idea will be most welcom :)

sounds like you have a lot of walking to do I hope you are
fit! prob can be done but you will be pushing it.If you'r
fit and have been in the hills the track times can be
seriously undercut. But if you are planning to do the
Routeburn soon check the show conditions, there is serious
avalanche danger there. Beautiful place though, especially
in winter. Greenstone is fine, a valley ramble but tiring
if you are going to be tramping 7-8 hours a day (which you
will need to do to finish in 6-7 days. Mavora walkway is
okay, but nothing special, you will have seen it all in the
routeburn and Greenstone. Also there no public transport at
the Southland end and hithching could take a very long time.
Im guessing you want to go from Queenstown to Te Anau. The
Rees Dart and then the Routeburn would give some
spectacular scenary (weather dependent)
Enjoy the hills
There is no transport to Mavora in the winter In the summer
Kiwi experience back road bus goes through daily and will
drop you off, will take you 3/4hrs to Bounry hut, 4 to
Taipo, 3to slyburn on edge of greenstone, 3hrs to lake from
here going down the greenstone [only transport is a boat to
Glenorcy departs 2pm. from slyburn going up the greenstone
its about 1hr to midgreenstone hut, another 5or6 to Mc
kellar ,two from there to the start of Routeburn, transport
off routeburn 10am and 2am there is sometimes another bus at
5pm but not for one person as it has to be specially
arranged. You are totally dependant on the trnsport systems
in very remotewplaces.I have just done the Mavora for the
second time, but I am a local and have friends to drop me
off.
cheers
Diane
For the good edvaice, I didn't mention that I'm planning to
do the Tramping on February 2000.
Diane, can I have your Email to consult with you on other
Tramping trails throughout NZ?
And again thak you all
Roni:)
I have done the Routeburn in march and lucked out with
perfect weather, you have a good chance of good weather in
Feb, but it can be very changeable. Took me two and a half
days cruising along and enjoying, but I am a geriatric.
Totally spectacular!! you wont regret doing this one.
